The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
January 12, 2024
Dear Families,
I hope you have found your parent teacher conferences informative this week! We have two more scheduled days next week on January 17th & 18th (schedules may vary). I want to thank the Sunshine Committee and all who donated to the incredible salad makings and sweet treats on Wednesday. This helped to make the long days for staff special and provide energy to make it through.
As you know, we are already near the end of the 2nd quarter already. Quarter 2 ends on 1/26 and teachers will be preparing student Report Cards on 1/29. Please look for your child's report card to come home with them on Monday, February 5th.
What an end to the week it has been! Thank you for your flexibility in picking up your child early. I can't remember a time when we have had a three hour early release in all the years I have been in PPS, except for the "Snowmageddon" of 2017. While school is VERY important, so is everyone's safety.
I hope you all have a safe long weekend!
Warmly,
Principal Pam

Attendance Reminders
Parents – You’ve been doing a GREAT job of letting the office know when your student(s) are absent! But please be sure to let us know WHY your student(s) are absent. Our attendance system has a required drop-down Reason tab, and we’d like to be sure to get it right! Thank you for your help, and if you have any questions, please contact the office!
School Expectations & Safety Reminder
Parents, students who wish to hang out after school and play must be accompanied by an adult. Staff are not on duty past 2:20 pm.
Lately we have seen more students chewing gum during school. The expectation is that there is no gum at school. We find it in strange places and is not safe to be chewing during PE.
From the Llewellyn Library
OBOB Families! This next Thursday, January 18th, is Llewellyn's first ever Practice Battle session after school from 2:30-3:30 in the Llewellyn Library. Attendance is strongly encouraged for students and at least one adult (coach/mentor) from each team. Please RSVP to Sarah Sell by Friday, January 12th to sarah.s.sell@gmail.com. Come to get your questions answered, see how a battle is run, or to help new teams find their groove! We hope to see you there!
From the TAG Coordinator
Talented and Gifted Winter Nominations:
The process starts with a conversation between parent/guardian and the classroom teacher. Together you can decide if the student meets the qualifications and/or should be tested. Students with test scores from last spring and fall that qualify for TAG have already been sent out to families. If you did not receive notification and you would like to nominate the window will be open until January 26th. The three areas that PPS identifies in are intellectual, reading, and math. You may decide to nominate in any area that applies. Once the parent/guardian has communicated/requested nomination, the teacher will fill out the required form and submit work samples. If further testing is required to make a determination the school, in coordination with the TAG office, will schedule the tests to be given. Notification regarding identification status will be sent out in early spring and be active the following year. Again, please inquire/request with the classroom teacher as they are responsible for filling out the nomination form. They will be able to discuss work samples and assessment data in regards to TAG requirements.
If you missed the TAG Night on December 13th the district video of the slide show is here.
If you have further questions please reach out.

From the District Indian Education Department
It’s the time of year when we start our last big push to increase enrollment numbers before we submit our application for the federal grant that sustains our department. As a reminder, the federal Title VI Indian Education Program is a program that provides supplemental support to Native American students who are enrolled, or who have a parent or a grandparent enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, state recognized tribe, terminated tribe, or Alaskan Native.
Indian Education 506 forms should be coming home to those who are already identified as belonging to a Native American tribe. If you identify as a member, but did not get a form, please contact the Llewellyn office and we will update your student’s ethnicity so you can get information moving forward.
You can also read this month’s Talking Circle (the Indian Education newsletter) HERE.
School Spirit Days
Every Friday will be a School Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Llewellyn gear new or old. One Friday per month will be a fun theme. On 1/26 it will be Inside Out Day!
Inside Out Day- Friday, January 26th!
Wear your clothes inside out and show your school spirit!

Readathon planning is underway! It will begin on January 24th!! We are wrapping up getting our site ready for pledges and our reading log packets together to hand out to students. Please watch for an announcement on Konstella to explain this event and how we will be fundraising on the site. We are very excited to launch this new fundraiser and hope students and families will enjoy all the fun events we have planned along the way to help support them.
Reading Night is coming up on February 1. We are currently working on getting some really wonderful readers to share their love of books with you. Look out for an announcement on Konstella to see what our schedule of readers will be!
Our next meeting will be on January 16 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Dr. Lahela Isaacson, will be one of our guest speakers. Her presentation is entitled "Screening out Disconnection: Connecting with your child screens or no screens”. Debbie Conrad will also be with us to share about what students will learn this spring about bees! Neither presentation is one you want to miss. Now is the Time to Keep or Enroll in Health Insurance Coverage for 2024
Oregon Health Plan: Rolling Renewals
If you have Oregon Health Plan (OHP) or other Medicaid benefits, follow the steps below. If you had these benefits at any time during the COVID-19 pandemic, you may still have them.
Make sure your address is up-to-date. You can do that on your own or get free help in any of the ways below.
Find an office or community partner near you at KeepCovered.Oregon.gov.
Report changes and respond to renewals online at benefits.Oregon.gov.
Call 800-699-9075 weekdays from 7 am to 6 pm. You can get help in many languages – find the language line numbers at benefits.Oregon.gov. Wait times are shortest between 7 am and 8 am.
Keep checking the mail for your renewal letters from the State of Oregon. When they come, do what they ask right away.
Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace: Enroll by Jan. 16, 2024
If you don’t qualify for the Oregon Health Plan and don’t get health insurance through your job, now through Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024 is an important time. It’s the only time of year most people can sign up for an individual or family plan to have coverage in 2024.
Get started by visiting OregonHealthCare.gov/WindowShop. This tool will allow you to preview programs, plans, and savings available to you; what plans will cover your current doctor; and how much your anticipated costs will be, including refilling your prescriptions.
The Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace helps connect Oregonians to health coverage and financial help through its federal partners at HealthCare.gov. It’s the only place where you can get financial help on monthly premiums and other out-of-pocket costs. Nearly 80 percent of Oregonians enrolled through the Marketplace in 2023 qualified for financial help – that could be you, too!
Want help? A health insurance expert can help you, at no cost, apply for financial help and enroll in coverage. You can find an expert near you at OregonHealthCare.gov/GetHelp.
For more information, visit OregonHealthCare.gov or call 855-268-3767 (toll-free).
