Hinton Voted PPEL
Frequently Asked Questions
What is PPEL?
PPEL is short for Physcial Plant and Equipment Levy and it is a tax that generates additional revenue the school can use for repairs, equipment and school improvements. The voted PPEL can range from $.67 to $1.34 and runs for a term of 10 years. We are in our fifth year of our current term which ends in 2026.
Why is the Hinton community being asked to increase the Voted PPEL from $0.67 per $1000 to $1.34 per $1000?
The current PPEL generates $172,681 in funds and approximately $120,000 of those funds go towards paying off the Wellness Center. We have limited funds for other necessary school projects. The Wellness Center will be paid off in five years. The current VPPEL will expire in 2026 unless it is renewed at that time.
How will the increase in VPPEL affect my school property tax rates?
We anticipate from our budget preparation that the increase could be flat to $.10 per $1,000 depending on district income tax paid which won’t be out until March 1. Below we are showing it projected as a one cent increase.
What will the funds raised by PPEL be used for? (Note: This is not a complete list)
- Facilities Study for Future School Planning $25,000 to $35,000
- One to One Initiative (Technology Device for each student) $50,000 a year
- Bus $125,000
- Other School Vehicles well as Cars, Vans, and Utility Truck $30K - 40K
- Safety and Security Equipment
- Playground Equipment for 4th – 6th Building $60K
