Blue Devil Bulletin
December, 2023
From the Principal
Hello, Lodi High School Families!
The week of Nov. 13 will always be remembered in LHS history as one of the most memorable. The community of Lodi rallied around our football team to help support them in their pursuit of their second WIAA state title, and our DPI state report card was revealed showing our 2nd highest score in school history, ranking us 20th amongst over 500 schools. This just doesn't happen without the help and support of our teachers, parents, coaches, Lodi community members, and of course our tremendously talented students. It was and always will be a team effort!
As we move into the winter months were looking forward to witnessing many more amazing accomplishments from our students, whether it be on the court, the mat, the rink, or in the classroom.
Please make note that our first semester ends on Dec. 22, with finals taking place on Dec. 20, 21, and 22. 9th grade parents, be sure to check out the amended schedule for each of the three days featured below.
Thank you for your continued support and Go Blue Devils!!
Mr. Jelinek

1st Semester - Final Exam Schedule - Dec. 20, 21, 22
Final Exam Expectations and Protocols:
All students need to be present for their scheduled exam period. The only students who don’t need to be here for their classes are students who TA at the high school or have senior release.
In order to maintain a quiet, testing environment during exams, students must remain in the class for the FULL 90 MINUTES.
Students will be allowed to study quietly in the commons at any time, where teachers will act as resources for various content areas.
- Lunch is open campus, so students can leave school grounds. Parents, please remind your student to drive safely and if they are late upon their return, they will lose their open campus lunch privilege for the next day.
Please note: If there is a weather related closure on any day of finals, finals will all be delayed a day.
If there is a weather related closure on December 20, all four A day finals will be scheduled on December 21 and all B day finals will be taken on December 22. Students will have four final periods each day which will last 90 minutes and make ups will have to be arranged on an individual basis with the classroom teacher (that way we will not extend the semester over break).
If there is a weather related closure on December 21, we will take the exams scheduled for that day on December 22. The A3 and B3 final exams would be taken on January 3. There would be a 30 minute review in A3 class to start the day on January 3, students would then take their A3 final, then go to their B3 class for a 30 minute review, and then take their B3 finals. The afternoon will be open for make up exams.
If there is a weather related closure on December 22, the Block A3 and Block B3 exam would be taken on January 3 and we would follow the schedule outlined in the bullet point above.
If there are two days of inclement weather (for example, closure on December 20 and December 21), finals will be moved to January. We would have all four A day finals on December 22, have B day classes on January 3 for review purposes, and have all B day finals on January 4.
If there is a weather related late start any day, the finals schedule will begin at 10 a.m. and be adjusted accordingly with the make-up exam periods being canceled for the day in question. Any make up exams will have to be arranged on an individual basis with the classroom teacher.
If we have an early release due to weather on December 20 or December 21, the final that is missed would be rescheduled for Friday afternoon. For example, if we have an early release on December 20, the exam missed would be rescheduled for the same time on December 22 during the make-up exam time. Any exams that need to be made up would then need to be scheduled individually by the student with his or her teacher.
Lodi Football - WIAA Division IV Champions!
For the second time in school history the Lodi High School Football Team is state champions! They ended their historic season at Camp Randall with a 38 to 14 win over Luxemburg Casco. Leading up to the state final, Coach Puls and his coaching staff assembled and prepared a team that was dominant in almost every contest this season. It is always an exciting and prideful time for our students, parents and community when one of our sports teams competes at a state tournament, so a huge thank you needs to go out first to the student/athletes that made it happen on the field. They made it look easy, but the years of concentrated effort in preparing for this season wasn't. We also, would like to acknowledge Dave Puls and his coaching staff that not only helped them prepare for each and every game, but also emphasized the importance of being successful in the classroom. For the first time the senior class of football players made the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Academic All-State. We'd like to thank the cheer squad and their advisors, Keri Bahr, Jill Gort, and Kelly Schafer for all of the time they put in before and during the season helping support the team and leading the student section, as well as Mr. Hoeft and the pep/marching band. They all did an amazing job on the biggest stage at Camp Randall and all season long. Finally, thank you parents, LHS families and Lodi community members for supporting our student/athletes!
National Honors Society Induction Ceremony

Thailand Exchange
We had another successful exchange with our sister school in Suphan Buri Thailand, Sa-nguan Ying this past Fall.
LHS would like to thank the following people for their support of the program:
- Lodi School Board and our Superintendent, Mr. Vince Breunig
- Lodi High School Staff again for being so accommodating by welcoming our guests to their classrooms and attending the Thai presentations.
- LHS students who always treat our guests with respect.
- A special thank you goes out to Mr. Persike, Mr. Horan, Ms. Robarge, and Mr. Kohl for opening up your classrooms to our guests. Mr Arnold, Mr. Kohl and all of the teachers and other staff that helped with chaperoning our field trips during the exchange.
- Mrs. Barlow and Mr. Fassbender for their strong leadership within the exchange program.
- Our host families, students and buddies for opening up your homes to our guests.

High School Musical - Mamma Mia - Another Huge Success!!
Close to 1900 fans attended this year's Lodi High School Musical, Mamma Mia. The show featured 40 student cast members, 23 student crew members and 3 student pit members, as well as 35 parents and community members that worked countless hours behind the scenes. According do director, Erica Bardwell, there was 160 hours of rehearsing with students, 500+ hours spent on set building, painting, lighting and sound. There was 400 minutes of vocal practice tracks made for the students, and 13 songs with choreography and approximately 185 costumes. It was a major production that featured some incredibly talented students. Thank you families and community members for attending. It wouldn't have happened without your support.
Therapy Dog at LHS - Maximus
In the very near future Lodi High School will be hosting a very special visitor. His name is Maximus and he is a certified therapy dog. Maximus is almost 3 years old and has been a therapy dog for about a year. He took his training classes at Badger Kennel Club and passed his evaluations and tests with Alliance of Therapy Dogs. He currently is a therapy dog with the Lodi Middle School, Madison Public Library, Our House Assisted Living and Guardian Whiskers reading program in Madison. Maximus will be making his appearances before school and during lunch in the LMC from time to time.

Nurse's Notes, December 2023
Nurse Notes: December
Take Action to stop respiratory viruses from spoiling holiday cheer:
If you are sick, stay home to avoid putting others at risk. If symptoms are worsening or severe symptoms then contact your healthcare provider
Cover coughs and sneezes when around others to help project them
Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs can easily spread this way
Handwashing often with soap and water removes most germs, including respiratory viruses from your hands. If soap and water are not available, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can kill many germs
Wearing a high quality face mask while you travel, for example, can help protect you and others. This might be especially important if you are at higher risk of developing serious complications from these illnesses

Lodi Santa Project
Hello Families,
Each year, families in our district are offered support during the holiday season through the Lodi Santa Project. This project has been around for 30+ years providing local families in need with gifts and other necessities anonymously for children who might otherwise go without. Last year we put smiles on the faces of 110 local kids (a new record)! We know that these are especially difficult times for many families in our community. If you, or any family that you know who are part of the Lodi School District would benefit from this project, please reach out to the program coordinator, Pam Cunningham, directly via email at lodisantaproject@gmail.com.
Families who would like to support the Lodi Santa Project financially or who would like to sponsor a child or family can also contact Pam at the email address above. Monetary donations as well as items such as teen-friendly gift cards, socks, mittens, hats etc. are always appreciated!
LHS Staff Appreciation
Appreciate a Staff Member!
We have so many amazing educators here at Lodi High School! Last year, Mr. Jelinek and Mr. Marshall sat down with each staff member, and one of the common themes that came up was how much our staff love to be appreciated by the families that they serve. When you experience a staff member who is going above and beyond or deserves some recognition, please consider giving them a shout-out through our staff appreciation google form. Your appreciation will be put on a staff appreciation poster and shared with that staff member.
