Dylan Cheng is an outstanding student in the International Baccalaureate Program with a 4.31 GPA, ranking 11 in his class. He has maintained Principal's Honor Roll and Top 10 GPA status since his Freshman year and is an AP Scholar with Distinction. Dylan is involved in several school clubs. He is the IB Club Vice President; a member of the Creative Writing Club (2019-2023) - Secretary (2021-23); a member of CSF (2019-23); and a member of the Korean Club (2019-23). He has also been a part of Unicef, Evirosci, Chinese Club, Math Club, Interact, and National Honor Society.

Dylan is also an athlete. He has played Basketball since 9th grade and has been on the Varsity team for three years, being the Captain during his Junior and Senior years. He has also been a track team member for three years, the Captain for the last two years, and moved on to the CIF Prelims in 2022. As an athlete, he has been recognized as the Hacienda League All-2nd Team (2020-21), twice as the Hacienda League All-Academic (2020-22), Rowland Basketball Defensive Player of the Year (2022), San Gabriel High School Thanksgiving Feast Tournament MVP (2022), and Ontario Christian High School Knight Time Classic All-Tournament Team (2022).

Dylan co-founded the Rowland IB Crochet Group, where he and the members hand-crocheted beanies and donated them to the homeless. He spent 300+ hours learning how to crochet to make the beanies to later distributed them. As a group, they presented a total of 40 beanies.

Dylan hopes to attend a 4-year university with an intended major in Computer Science. He is still deciding whether to pursue this field. He would like to attend a liberal arts college to discover where his passion truly lies and continue building on his life from there.

Mahimaa Bharwani is an excellent student who has received High Honor Roll (2019-20) and Principal's Honor Roll (2020-2022). She ranks in the top 15% of her class. Mahimaa actively participates in school clubs as President of the Chemistry Club (2022-23), Vice President of the Japanese Club (2022-23), Vice President of the American Sign Language Club (2021-2023), and Treasurer of the Peer Counseling Club (2022-23).

Mahimaa's true passion lies in Fine Arts, specifically Dance. She was the recipient of the 2022 Jack White Scholarship, won the second overall 2021 Revolution National Dance Competition, 2022 Top Soloist Nexstar National Dance Competition, and received the 2021 Opus Music School's Director's Choice Award. She has performed at the OC Fair (2016, 2022), the Dance the Magic Disneyland Parade (2010-19), New York Broadway (2015), and Volare Dance Team (2021-23). She also gives back to the community as an Acrobatic Arts Dance Teacher and at the Opus Music School, where she created an art curriculum for elementary-age students. She has also volunteered for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night and at the D23 Exposition 2022.

After high school, Mahimaa wants to pursue a career in cognitive science at a four-year university. She plans to continue her volunteer work backstage at Disney events and continue to assist in choreographing performances for new animated Disney movies. While in college, she plans to complete a kinesiology certification course and help a physical therapy clinic or her pilates instructor. Additionally, she would like to further her teaching of Acrobatic Arts by advancing to the higher level certification course.

Board Member, Cary Chen, visited Mr. Lohman's Economics/Government class. Students had a great lesson about his role as a school board member. In addition, they learned some of Mr. Chen’s business background and his business in countries such as China and Taiwan.

Did you know that your Rowland High School library has a Maker Space? We do! Students and Staff can come in and use our Button Maker, Cricut Maker 3, and Heat Press (for iron-on vinyl) for projects. The only requirement is that you bring your own materials (vinyl, fabric, etc…). If you are interested in designing your own buttons, stickers, t-shirts, etc…come and see Mrs. Ruesga in the library to set up a time to come in and learn how to use the software and equipment.

Special Education students working with Adapted PE Teacher Deann McCormick as they prepare for the upcoming 5th Annual Adapted PE Basketball Game that will be held in April at RHS. The Adapted PE Basketball Game gives the students in Special Education a chance to show off their skills as they compete against each other. Be sure to stop by the gym on April 13th and support our students!

To qualify, students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher with NO "D" or "F" OR have a 0.5 PGA improvement.

Theme Reveal will be on January 20th @lunch in the quad.

Counselors will be meeting with all RHS students and current 8th graders from late January to early March to help them pick classes for summer school and for the 2023-24 school year.

Rowland has four new courses that will be offered next year: AP Precalculus, Computer Game Design, Law Enforcement Academy, and Music Appreciation. NOTE: Availability is based on student interest. We won't be able to offer these new classes if enough students do not request them in February and March during registration.

AP Precalculus: Open to rising 9-12 grades; Replaces Precalculus Honors

Prerequisite – Algebra 2 (A or B in Algebra 2 recommended)

Course description: The course will cover polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric and polar functions, and functions involving parameters, vectors, and matrices. Meets UC A-G Math requirement.

Computer Game Design: Open to rising 10-12 grades

Prerequisite – Computer & Information Tech or AP Computer Science Principles

Course description: Introduction to all aspects of game design. Students will use CodeHS Game Design in Unity software. Students will learn about cyber ethics, programming a model, designing visuals, and creating game play videos. Meets UC A-G College Prep Elective requirement.

Law Enforcement Academy: Open to rising 10-12 grades

Prerequisite – Criminal Justice and Forensic Science

Course description: Law Enforcement Exploring is intended to provide students with an educational and practical orientation into the law enforcement profession. For Explorers to have the type of quality experience that will permit them to better understand and appreciate the law enforcement profession; to facilitate their acceptance by departmental personnel.

Music Appreciation: Open to grades 9-12

No prerequisite

Course Description: This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of creating, enjoying and listening to music. Students will explore all different styles of music from Classical to Pop and Hip Hop. Students will also explore the intersection of music and culture and how music has influenced many aspects of the world we live in.

Attention Sophomores & Juniors! UCR's academic honor society, Psi Chi, invites you to the 3rd Annual Psychology Winter Camp (PWC). This free-of-charge, two-day event that will occur online through Zoom, Saturday and Sunday, February 18th - 19th, 2023, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (PT).

The 2023 Psychology Winter Camp (PWC) will consist of various activities such as an undergraduate student panel, activities with Camp Leader(s) and other Camp attendees, and an UCR psychology professor's Keynote Speech, allowing attendees numerous opportunities to interact with UCR undergraduates, graduates, and faculty members, and have their inquiries regarding higher education answered; ultimately, we hope that attendees are inspired to pursue higher education and/or leave with an increased interest in psychology overall.
