The Pawsome Print
January 5, 2024
Dear Pawsome Families,
Welcome back!
Our students have voted on a name for our Loring Leopard and the top three names generated were Paws, Spots, and Lucky. Each class voted again and I am excited to announce that our Loring Leopard's name is Lucky!
I am also working on providing a playground update. I know many families are inquiring. I hope to have more information and a timeline to share early next week.

Paw Reward - 3rd Grade
Before break, the Williams' class earned a paw reward and chose a Teacher-Student Switch Day. Several students came in ready to teach a mini-lesson. Lessons varied from cursive letters to multiplication strategies, from rubix cube tricks to knitting and crocheting, and from square roots to making fortune tellers!
Some students knew Mr. Williams' outfit well, complete with a blue button-down or polo, khaki pants, and glasses! Extra points go to the student who had her own Paw necklace and name badge AND a Dunkin Donuts Ice Coffee Cup!
Dressing For The Weather
We will get outside for recess as much as possible, so please send your child to school with appropriate clothing for outdoor recess (coats, gloves, hats, snow pants/boots). When deciding if we will go outside, we take into account the real feel temperature and conditions. We reference the Child Care Weather Watch chart (see below) and our judgment when making a daily decision. If it is safe for students and staff, we will go outside for recess.
If you need help getting the appropriate outdoor recess gear for your child, please reach out to our counselors, Ms. Blumberg and Ms. Vlacovsky.
Recess and Lunch Volunteering Information
We wanted to thank everyone for the time they have given volunteering at recess and lunch this year. It has been a huge help and with the new slots opening, we wanted to send out a few friendly reminders to make the time successful for everyone.
We have also linked the Volunteer Training video and Slides, and Playground Expectations that you should review before volunteering. Thanks!
Please plan so you have enough time to check in at the front office and get a visitor badge before heading out to recess. Being on the playground (or in the classroom for indoor recess) for the start of recess is important.
At recess, please check in with the staff member to learn your supervision location for that day.
You should remain in that identified location, checking in with students and reminding students of safe choices in the area that you are supervising. We know that you want to check in with your child, but it is important to stay in and around your location.
If you are unsure of a recess rule or have a question, please check in with a staff member on duty.
At the end of recess, please help walk students into the lunch room.
During lunch, you will walk around the lunch room, checking in with tables and helping students. Please pass out wipes and encourage students to clean up the tables and floors.
Here is the link to the volunteer sign up. Thanks again for your help!

Loring Core Values
At Loring School, we are PAWSOME because we show our Core Values! These values are part of everyday life at Loring and reinforced in the classroom, on the playground and all around school. Students are taught the meaning of each word and how they make us better students and community members. Please continue to have conversations about our core values at home.
Respect ~ Responsibility ~ Caring ~ Best Effort
The Loring Pledge
The Loring Pledge is said every morning during announcements. Loring students embody our pledge and we hope this stays with them not only when they are at school but home as well.
