Here's what's happening at Menchaca this week:
School Bus Safety Week
All students will get a special presentation from the transportation department about bus safety. This is especially important as our students begin to go on field trips!
Wednesday (10/18) - Unity Day
All students are encouraged to wear orange for anti-bullying, kindness, acceptance and inclusion!
Morning Drop-Off Reminders
To ensure a safe and efficient drop-off, please adhere to the following procedures:
- Drop-Off Begins / Gym Doors open at 6:35 AM
- All vehicular traffic must enter the campus at the second gate. The main gate (traffic light/guard shack) is for buses, staff, and our ECSE students ONLY.
- Between 6:35 - 7:15 AM, the main office entrance is reserved for our ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) students ONLY. All other students should use the second entrance to be dropped-off at the gym.
- Students arriving after 7:15 AM are late. Tardiness disrupts your child's daily routine and learning time. Remember drop off begins each morning at 6:35 AM
The Counseling Corner
Building social-emotional skills at home for early childhood students is of paramount importance as it lays the foundation for their lifelong emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships. These formative years are a critical period for children to develop skills like empathy, self-regulation, and effective communication, which are essential for success in school and later in life. Parents and caregivers play a pivotal role in fostering these skills by providing a safe and nurturing environment for children to express their emotions, learn how to manage them, and understand the feelings of others. By focusing on social-emotional development at home, children not only gain the tools they need to navigate the complexities of human interaction, but they also develop resilience and a strong sense of self, ultimately leading to healthier and more fulfilling lives as they grow and mature. Check out some of these home activities to build social emotional skills!

Chronically absent students are more likely to fall behind in reading and math, and they are less likely to graduate from high school. Starting as early as pre-k and kindergarten, chronic absenteeism predicts lower reading abilities.
