Hopkins Families,
Thank you all Hopkins Families for your support last month by attending our Fall Conferences, Harvest Night, and Cafe con la Familia! We appreciate your attendance! Speaking of, remember to have your kids at school everyday and on time! Late check-ins take a bit of time so be sure to have them at the bus stop or car lanes early!
This month we are excited to welcome families into the building for our Thanksgiving Lunches! See the dates along with other events below!

Digital Learning Day November 3rd
Teachers may provide live (synchronous) learning opportunities and/or recorded (asynchronous) lessons and independent work.
This means that students will be required to participate in digital instruction on a specific schedule with their teachers (synchronous learning), and also complete activities and assignments (asynchronous learning) on their own time to meet assignment deadlines.
- Students will receive quality instruction on all grade-level standards, learning the district’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.
- Instruction and support will be provided by teachers and staff from the student’s local school.
- If synchronous learning opportunities are provided, they will occur during the school day.
- Students will access assignments through eCLASS C&I course pages, but teachers also may use digital resources such as Google Classroom, SAFARI Montage, etc.
- Schools will provide specific information to support students and parents around digital learning processes and protocols. Check your school webpages and/or newsletters for more information.
- Additional student and parent support resources will be available on the district web page and in the student portal.
- The updated GCPS Parent Portal makes it easier for parents to see assignments, including missing ones. It also allows parents to access student information, including gradebook data, discipline, report cards, transcripts, calendars, and more.
Will students who are learning digitally have a schedule for when they should be online? Yes, check with your school to learn more about your child’s specific schedule.
Will teachers be taking attendance? Students are expected to turn in assignments from digital learning days. Information concerning attendance will be provided by the school and/or your child’s teacher.
How will students take tests and be assessed?
Assessments play an important role in the teaching and learning process. Teachers are learning new ways to informally and formally assess student learning digitally. These opportunities help teachers gauge a students’ mastery of the AKS and help teachers design a response to each student’s learning. Student participation in these assessments and assignments is key to helping teachers help students. Students will be expected to complete these tasks truthfully and while following teacher guidelines for the use of resources.

Hopkins School Council
- The A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 established school councils in Georgia to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to achieve the following: solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process. In short, School Councils provide advice, recommendations, and assistance to principals and local boards of education. Hopkins Elementary School council meets four times a year (September, November, January, and March).
- If you are interested in joining the Hopkins School Council for the 2023 - 2024 school year, contact Noelle Gardner, Administrative Assistant, at noelle.gardner@gcpsk12.org.
