Miller Elementary Weekly Update
September 8, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
We had another amazing week at Miller Elementary! Every child is settling into our school routines, making new friends and of course having a lot of fun! We are enjoying getting to know your amazing children and feel so honored to be a part of their educational journey.
With picture day upon us this Wednesday, September 13th, we want to reassure you that we help all children feel comfortable in front of the camera. We will help to fix their hair, adjust any outfits or capture that perfect smile. If your child has PE on Wednesday, please pack their tennis shoes so they have appropriate shoes for PE class. Purchasing a photo package is not required, however, you can order pictures online to avoid any paperwork sent to school. Your order needs to be placed prior to our picture day so that Riphco Studios knows your preference of background color and the specific package. You can also use the envelope that was sent home this week to select a package and send in any money to complete the purchase. If you have any questions about picture day, please feel free to reach out to us, or Ripcho Studios. All links for picture day can be found below.
I see that cooler temps are heading our way next week. This is a friendly reminder to check the weather each day and please send in a jacket or sweatshirt for our cooler outdoor recess days. It is helpful if you label your child's jacket with their name so all items can be returned to their owner. Please see the photos below of our current lost and found and respond back if an item belongs to your child.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and say HELLO if you see me at the Friday Homecoming Football Game!
Go GREENMEN!

Miller Parent Pick-Up & Attendance Reporting 23-24
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org
Important Reminder About Birthday Celebrations & Invitations
Celebrating birthdays and holidays can be a fun tradition for many. We want to remind everyone that we ask that birthday invitations do not come to school so that this can be handled with care from each individual family and not through the schools. Often times there can be hurt feelings or lost items that can become more problematic than intended, so it's best if families take care of this special delivery.
This is also a friendly reminder that all birthday or holiday items that come into school need to be non-food items. With our young children, there are many allergies and family preferences about food and treats so we ask that no food or candy is sent into the classroom except for a specific request from the classroom teacher. Suggested birthday items could be a small item, a book donated to the classroom, or something fun for everyone to enjoy to remember your child's special day. Thank you for your cooperation!
School Wide PBIS Skill of the Week
Developmentally, children at Miller want to play, explore and socialize with their classmates and teachers. Shifting from playtime to active listening and learning time will take practice. You can see below how we explicitly teach what active listening looks like and feels like during learning times. You can practice "Ready to Learn" choices at home when you help your child practice letters, counting, writing their name, or even playing a game as a family. Using the language, "Let's have a quiet mouth when others are talking," will help your child develop skills to understand that everyone has a voice that we value and respect.
Updates From Our School Counselor ~ Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Miller! Part of my role as a school counselor consists of connecting families with varying resources. You will note a link to a list of Community Resources should you wish to explore resources for your child outside of the school setting. During the school year, Miller offers a variety of opportunities to assist families with financial needs through partnering with our PTO. By reaching out to me via phone, email or in-person, I can assist your student with funds for upcoming Book Fairs or the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing including jackets, pants and boots; purchase of the class T-shirt, purchase of a yearbook, school supplies and any other need brought to my attention. Please do not hesitate to contact me with the slightest concern. Feel free to simply let me know what you need, and I’ll connect with you to ensure this need is fulfilled!

Updates From Nurse Jackie Pawlowski
Here are some important reminders to ensure the safety of our school community each day:
- Check your child each day for illness symptoms. If they begin to feel ill, please know she will assess your child and make contact with a family member when necessary.
- Students sent home with a fever or vomiting, may not return to school until they are fever or vomit-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come and pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- We will use Final Forms to communicate any health concerns or communicable diseases that may arise in your child's class. Such examples include strep throat, pink eye, and COVID. This will allow you to closely monitor your child for any similar symptoms.
- Please make sure your Final Forms medical information is up to date. We will closely read the health sections to address any medical concerns.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email our school nurse Jackie Pawlowski at jpawlowski@aurora-schools.org.
