Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy
September 2021 Newsletter
Welcome Back, Rainiers!
Dear Columbia Crest Families,
My name is Allison Shew and I am the proud Principal of Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy. The legacy of academic excellence at Columbia Crest is rich and continues to be a cornerstone of the Nisqually Valley Communities. As an addition to the rich legacy of Columbia Crest, our Preschool Program has been expanded to a second class of students. We are excited to have two preschool classes on site. Welcome to all of our new families.
Our building received a fresh coat of paint over the summer thanks to our hardworking maintenance crew. Additionally, our parking lot was recently restriped. Mr. Hehemann worked throughout the summer to ensure our school garden has been well tended to and has been providing vegetables to community members. Continuing this year, all ten of our grade levels will work in our garden to plant and grow their own crops. Our goal is for students to harvest the crops to add an organic addition to our lunch options.
My mission as your Principal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to experience deeper learning in an engaging classroom environment. In partnership with you our desire is to provide students an opportunity to excel academically with unique experiences that our location provides.
Thank you in advance for your dedication as we enter the 2021-2022 school year!
Stay Well, Rainiers,
Principal Shew

Counselor Corner
We are excited to have Ms. Deb Noble-Perry as our counselor for the 21-22 school year. Ms Noble-Perry has worked in Bethel as a teacher and school counselor for 34 years, retiring in 2015. She was last at Columbia Crest in spring of 2018 as our counselor. She has worked in 3 districts as a long term substitute since then. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Pacific Lutheran University in 1978. Additionally, she earned a Master of Arts in Community Counseling and Educational Support Associate from St. Martin’s University in 1990.
Her hobbies include being active, working out and gardening. She is looking forward to returning to be a part of the CCA family.
Ms. Noble-Perry will serve students three days a week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:45am-2:15pm.
Welcome back !! We are so glad you are here! Columbia Crest is a special community, and I am so glad to back! Because I care , and want the very best for each of our students I feel that it is important to give you a heads up about attendance.
Attendance everyday is vitally important! Studies show that a student who misses school as little as 1 day per month ( that's 9 days per year/5 percent) can struggle in their academic lessons. 18 days per year( 10 percent), has been shown to have the potential to domino into more serious concerns in later school years( like credit deficiency and difficulty graduating high school).
Please understand that if attendance starts to develop a pattern( chronic tardiness, missing a couple of days per month)I will be reaching out to you to see what we need to do.If you are struggling with attendance concerns, please let me know so we can be proactive.
~Mrs. Noble-Perry

Student Council Gets Ready
The CCA Student Council, comprised of elected 6th, 7th and 8th graders spent a day getting ready and planning for a great 2021-22 school year. This year’s group led by Alice, Lauryn, Lila, Addy, Abi and Carl are off and running. They learned to run a meeting using Parliamentary Procedure and then made decisions regarding activities, competitions, support for their learning and helping to create a friendly inclusive environment for all students. These leaders plus the Class Representatives and Presidents are going to bring a very positive vibe to the year. It was such a pleasure to work with these students and get the year started! Look for good things to come!!
