APRES October Newsletter

Greetings Dolphin Family!

We are well into first semester and the fall season is upon us. We are experiencing cooler mornings with still quite warm afternoons. As the season changes, please keep in mind the importance of dressing scholars appropriately for the weather and talking to them about proper hand washing as we transition into cold and flu season.

We had a spectacular Cluster Week last week and were fortunate to have the Westlake High School band, dancers, cheerleaders, and football team join us Friday morning to kick-off the cluster night game. Our lions did not win the game, but the spirit of the cluster schools coming together to cheer them on was extraordinary. Thank you to those of you who came to the game to represent A. Philip Randolph. It is my hope that our scholars enjoyed the experience and that they keep their "Eyes on the P.R.I.D.E."

Our scholars are in the process of completing Unit 1 Reading and Math post assessments, Unit 1 of IB Inquiry, and in grades 3 and 5 we will be taking the IOWA assessments this month. Our staff is working extremely hard to meet all of our students needs and to prepare them to exceed grade level standards. Information about report cards and parent-teacher conferences will be coming out soon. Please be sure to check your scholars VIP folder each week. VIP folders come home every Thursday with important classroom information, grade reports, and/or PTA information.

Our dolphin scholars are out of school Thursday, 10/10, Friday 10/11, and Monday, 10/14. Please mark your calendars that there is NO SCHOOL for scholars on those three days.

We will be hosting "Fall-o-ween Trunk or Treat", but please be reminded there will be no Halloween parties in classrooms. Students are not permitted to bring candy items or sweet treats to distribute to classmates. Please visit the FCS website for information about external food item distribution in schools.

Dear Parents:

Every year, our PTA helps to oversee the needs and development of the school. We help by raising funds to provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs to our students. The money we raise helps to fund class trips to all grades, books, classroom supplies, and a lot more. During the past years, the PTA has provided learning opportunities that would have otherwise been unavailable to our children. As the new school year begins, we would once again ask for your support so that we can continue making resource and learning opportunities available to our children.

While dues are not required for membership, the PTA depends on your annual voluntary donations to keep all sorts of wonderful things happening for the children of A. Philip Randolph. If you choose not to make any voluntary donations, we still appreciate your involvement and your time contributed to support our school. Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Title I Annual Meeting. To those who were not, the presentation can be found on our school website.

What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and state academic assessments.

The Title I program focuses on the academic needs of the most disadvantaged students.

There are 60 schools operating Title I programs in the Fulton County School System for the 2018-2019 school year.

Be on the lookout for parent engagement activities through our Title I parent liaisons office. We have several events scheduled for October.
