Important message to parents of students in grades 7-12
The Texas School Safety Center sends information to schools to disseminate to parents and one of those topics is human trafficking. An excerpt from socialwork.utexas.edu states the following, "Human trafficking happens when one person is controlled through violence, deception or coercion in situations of commercial sex, forced labor, or domestic servitude. Although human trafficking is known to be prevalent in large states with big urban centers such as Texas, the scope of the crime has been difficult to measure. Existing data sets, which focus almost exclusively on identified victims, have shed light on only a fraction of the problem." In other words, human trafficking is becoming a major concern across our country.
Because we care deeply about the safety of our students, Gunter ISD has chosen to partner with the Grayson County Criminal District Attorney, Brett Smith, to talk with our 7th - 12th grade students about this crucial topic on January 31st. He has put together a team of experts to visit with and educate our students on this topic. The group previously presented "One Pill Kills to our students, and the students responded well to his presentation. We are confident that he will present the facts that allow students to make safe choices for themselves.
Parents are invited to preview the presentation on January 29th at 6 PM at Gunter High School. We would love to get an estimate of how many parents will be attending, so please RSVP here for the Parent Presentation: https://forms.gle/zxizVJ82C81YnfxC6
**If you would rather your child not be included in the student presentation, we will provide an opt out form; watch for the link in your email on January 30th.

Thank You!
The PTO family does so much for our campuses, and we appreciate every single thing! Here are a few highlights. They can't do this without parent participation. Thank you for volunteering your time and making such wonderful donations to make our teachers feel loved.
GES PTO - Thank you to the GES PTO for providing breakfast on December 12th! It was yummy! We also were ecstatic over the gift drawing for the 12 days of Christmas. Thank you to everyone who made that possible.
GMS PTO - Thank you GMS PTO and Mrs. Hughes for providing our staff with “made to order”coffee! It was a perfect treat. Staff birthdays did not go unnoticed... there were cupcakes to celebrate. The 12 days of Christmas celebration was so much fun! Thank you to everyone who donated gifts for the drawing. Our staff felt the love in every box!
GHS PTO - Thank you to Alcon Pest Control and our wonderful GHS PTO for providing lunch for the high school faculty and the administration office right before the holiday break. We LOVE how they take care of us! The GHS PTO also has been sponsoring "pop up" shops where the proceeds will go towards State rings and senior scholarships. Their love for the staff and students is the best!
Thank you to the Magers family for giving a Christmas gift to each and every staff member of the high school and administration office! We appreciate it so much!
Thank you to the GISD Administration team for spoiling all of the employees at Gunter ISD in December! They were treated to a "Nacho" traditional holiday lunch and each employee received an awesome Gunter Tiger pullover to keep us warm throughout these winter months.

Happy Retirement, Mr. Williams
It was an honor to celebrate Mr. Mark Williams at the administration building one last time. We shared a meal, shared a hug, and presented him with a commemorative clock for his service to our district. This is not good-bye, we know we will see him in the stands cheering on our kids. Enjoy retirement, Mr, Williams!
Elementary

December is always fun at the elementary campus! The last three days of school before the break were dress up days, and they did not disappoint :) On "Grinch Day" we had so many little and big "Whos" from Whoville! And a special guest showed up on that very day... Maybe, just maybe, the Grinch changed his mischievous ways because of the Elf on the Shelf watching him... we'll never know :)
Mrs. Vest's kindergartners loved sporting their "ugly sweaters" before our holiday break.
The GES Tigers played a big part in cheering our Tiger football team on to a State Championship! They made signs and cheered them on in the walk of fame through the GES hallway. Here is Mrs. Fisher's class posing with Carter Layton's big head! :)

A Visit from Santa
Santa came for a visit! He made sure to visit the classrooms to remind the kids to get to bed early on Christmas Eve. He also visited with the staff to make sure they were all behaving. Mrs. Brackeen and Mrs. Keller were caught peeping into Santa's magical bag... and it looks like there were some great things in there!
Sharing Sweet Voices from GES
There is nothing more precious than the voices of our little Tigers. Our 1st grade did a phenomenal job on their "Littlest Reindeer" performance and we could not be more proud! The 2nd graders shared the joy of the season by caroling. Those who heard them were truly blessed!

In the GMS classrooms...
- The leadership students decorated Christmas cookies with Coach Akeroyd, and had a fabulous time!
- Mrs. Loewen's class got ready for Christmas by putting their tree together, stringing the lights, and decorating it with ornaments. To share their Christmas Spirit, the tree was on display in the GMS library for the campus to enjoy.
- Mrs. Bon's 5th grade scientists summed up their science knowledge by incorporating what they have learned into an ugly sweater design. Some of these kids could become fashion designers!

A giving heart is a happy heart! The leadership classes sponsored by Mrs. Schroeter began a project during November making blankets for the seniors at Tribute Senior Living. They worked hard all month and completed the blankets in December and traveled over the river and through the woods to all the grand people living in the center. We've often heard that giving is better than receiving, and on this day, we believe the smiles on our students faces might just show that sentiment. We were happy to bless the seniors at Tribute Senior Living during the holidays!

Organizations
National Honor Society
NHS members have done an outstanding job of dedicating their time to better our community. With many different volunteer opportunities available, such as Veteran’s Day, Gunter Holiday Market, and the Grayson Crisis Center, our members have gone above and beyond to donate and help out around our Gunter community. During the Veteran’s Day program, NHS members and officers were given the honor of meeting each veteran as they entered the building and escorting them to their designated seats.
The Gunter Holiday Market allowed NHS members to take charge of the kids station where crafts, games, and other Christmas activities occurred.
Additionally, as one of the top donors, Gunter High School collected all different hygiene products and other necessities for women in need at the Grayson Crisis Center. The NHS officers collected these donations from each classroom and dropped them off at the Crisis Center in Sherman.
Some standout members with the most volunteer hours include: Parker Hoel (79 hours), Christi Grayard (68 hours), Shelby Blansett (68 hours), Burkleigh Coats (60 hours), and Jackson Rue (55 hours). These individuals have exceeded the 36 required yearly hours during only one semester. This further proves the selflessness and dedication of each and every one of our active members. This program has taught students the importance of philanthropy and will continue to implement this discipline into their lives beyond high school.
HOSA
HOSA members visited the Cedar Hollow Rehabilitation Center in Sherman on Monday, December 4th to spread a little holiday cheer. They delivered cards, presented small gifts, and sang Christmas Carols to them. We love to see our students making the lives of others happier!
HOSA sponsored the "Gift of Life" Blood Drive before the holidays. Students, staff and parents donated to make it a successful event. HOSA will have another blood drive in the spring, watch for the date on our website and social media sites. Seniors that donate twice or get two donations on their behalf will be given a red cord to wear at graduation.
FFA

In the spirit of giving, the softball team held a drawing to give away a bicycle to one boy and one girl from our kindergarten class. The winners were excited, but we aren't sure who was more excited, the givers or the receivers!
The softball team also spent that morning opening car doors for the elementary students and starting their day off with a smile.
And.... you never know what you might run into during car line at the elementary school. The team found their superintendent, Mr. Martindale, dressed as the Elf on a Shelf! Never a dull moment in the GES car line!

Former Gunter Tiger Football player Raymond Owen (Class of ‘42) pulled out his original letter sweater and at the tender age of 100 years old, and headed to AT&T Stadium to cheer on the next generation of Gunter Tiger football players! Thank you to Erin Oates Grant for the picture and lettings us know he would be in the crowd. We think he is our good luck charm, because, well..... you know ... WE WON!
