WINTER SPORTS ATHLETES--YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR PRIVIT & BE CLEARED TO PARTICIPATE
Parkway West Marching Band
The Parkway West band program has had a very busy month of October. In addition to several marching band performances, the concert, symphonic, and jazz bands have been hard at work. The marching band finished their season on Saturday, October 21st at the Park Hills Central Rebel Invitational. West placed fourth in Class 5A preliminary competition and the color guard placed first out of 21 groups. The fall band concert will be held on Wednesday, November 8th at 7:30pm in the WHS Theatre. All three bands will perform. Learn more about the Parkway West Bands at www.parkwaywestband.com
Field Hockey
Varsity field hockey finished their season on Oct. 21 when they fell to second seed St. Joseph’s Academy in the round of 16 of the State Tournament. To reach the Sweet 16, the Longhorns beat Lindbergh, a team we lost to (2-1) the previous week in the last game of the season. The team stepped up and upset the higher ranked Flyers 1-0 to send the Longhorns to the Sweet 16 for the 3rd time in program history. Our keeper Caitlin Brandmill led the state in saves, and we had two players, Brooke Hoenecke and Hannah Zaiser, finish the season with 30 plus points. The team played some brilliant hockey this season with outstanding team defense, beautiful passing combinations and pretty goals. We look forward to building on what we accomplished this season!
JV Field Hockey finished their season with the JV tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14. It was a very early, cold and wet weekend morning. The girls braved the day with leggings and hoodies layered under their uniforms and gave a valiant effort. We had multiple girls who played their very first season of field hockey with us this year and their improvement was dramatic! Well done! With two experienced senior goal keepers on varsity, junior Shirah Rimaji played with our team. She was a great leader, communicator and many of her fantastic saves helped us stay in the game. We look forward to seeing her shine on varsity next year. As always the JV team is excited to continue building their skills next season!
