Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
I hope everyone is doing well and have a wonderful Spring Break Vacation next week! Spring marks the time of rebirth and we are definitely more than ready to start flowering after so much rain this year! I am excited about our upcoming family community events later this month: the Science Fair/Family STEM night on April 20th, and the Día Del Niño event on April 29th! Speaking of families, I want to SHOUT OUT and THANK all the Parent and Community Volunteers that came out this past Saturday for our first Service Day! We had over 100 volunteers come out to clean and beautify our school! A big thank you to parent Casia Ravi, Damien's mother, for the vision and coordination for this new school tradition! A special thank you to Julia Carranza, whose husband Ramiro taught at Adelante for a number of years, who designed the new Succulent Garden in the front. A big thank you to parent and professional painter Howard Zamora, Jeremy's father, from Howard's Painting for his time and painting supplies. We also want to thank Lyngsø, Home Depot of San Carlos, Home Depot of East Palo Alto, and Ace Hassett Hardware in Woodside Plaza for the generous donations. Here's a list of all the ways volunteers served and made the school better:
- creating a beautiful new succulent garden out front surrounding the school marquee/sign
- painting and establishing 3 Peace Paths for students to work out conflicts at Recess time
- LOTS of weeding & weed whacking around campus
- weeding and general clean-up of the amphitheater area
- trash pick up all around campus
- cleaning pencil marks from hallway walls
- putting tennis balls on all of the STEAM lab chairs
- cleaning gutters from roofs
- planting new flowers outside the Family Center
- staff room supplies organization
- clean up/organization of the new storage shed next to the bike rack
- clean up/organization of the Unidos storage room where the kiln is located
TK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade Dance Performances at Carrington Hall!
The TK, Kindergarten, and 1st grade Dance Recital at Carrington Hall was a great experience our students will never forget. They had Dance class weekly during the second Trimester with Danny G as part of the Enrichment rotation thanks to everyone's financial support with Unidos PTO. Each class then chose one dance/song to present on stage at Carrington Hall. A very special SHOUT OUT to Danny G who did a great job choreographing(as always) and encouraging the students to do their best and to work together for the final presentation. Thank you to the teachers for supporting the students throughout the semester and especially performance night as a few students were anxious about performing on stage in front of a live audience. The teachers and parents also did a great job coordinating the bright and colorful costumes that made the presentation special. A very special SHOUT OUT to parent volunteer Michelle Smith who booked Carrington Hall, organized the ticket seating(which had a few last minute challenges as it was completely sold out ), put together the program, and also video taped the performances! Enjoy the recordings below:
- Maestra Jennifer's Class: "El Baile Del Cuerpo"
- Maestra Susanne's Class: "Waka Waka"
- Maestra Narda's Class: " El Baile Shapiro"
- Maestra Marissa's Class: "Columbia Mi Encanto"

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
