Findley Elementary School
November 9, 2023
Message from the Principal
Hoping your time with teachers hearing about your students' strengths and goals was valuable and informative. Connecting with our families is one of the most important strategies educators can employ to create successful learning opportunities for our students. You are your child's first teacher and we value your partnership and support.
Superintendent Balderas recently shared some good news with BSD staff. Each school will be receiving additional allocations for paraprofessional positions. Paraprofessionals are valuable members of our team and work under the direction of teachers to support students in class, in small groups and at recess. Here at Findley, we will be adding 10.5 hours of paraprofessional time in our kindergarten classrooms and 7 hours of paraprofessional time in our resource room to working with students on IEPs. This is very exciting news, and we are excited to grow our team. If you, or someone you know, is interested in working for BSD and at Findley, please keep an eye on our job postings: ApplyBSD
Have a wonderful weekend!
With Gratitude,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.

New Information
Ruby Bridges Walk To School Day
Parents and Caregivers ~ We hope you can join us at one of these locations to honor Ruby Bridges. We will be walking rain or shine. If you live on one of these routes feel free to wait until we pass by to join or meet at the designated spot for our First Ever Findley Walking School Bus!
Volunteers needed - if you would be willing to help out with managing our walking school bus that would be great. We have leaders for both locations but if you'd be willing to walk with us and be sure that the group is staying together or perhaps be the "caboose" that would really be helpful.
Our PTO President Natalie Ma will be at the 13789 NW Payne Dr. location and Mrs. Hargrave, our Student Success Coach, will be at 12225 NW Fernleaf Dr. location.
We will leave both locations at 8:05. Hope to see you there!

Party Planners Needed!
Hello Findley Families,
Each grade level has only 3 class parties per year: Winter Party, Valentine's Day & the End of Year Celebration. In order for each classroom to have a party we need enough volunteers to coordinate, plan and gather supplies for each grade.
At least one lead or coordinator will be needed per grade in addition to support needed for the day of the class party. If you would like to represent your child's class for 1 or all 3 class parties, please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at findleypto.volunteer@gmail.com for more information. Or you can sign up now on Better Impact!

Findley Flyers
FINDLEY FLYERS
Findley Flyers is a walking/running club that encourages kids to exercise with their friends at recess or after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Greeting Findley Families,
Thank you so much to the amazing volunteers who have helped the Findley Flyers this year! We have had tremendous turn out from the students and your support is helping to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Volunteers needed - Thank you to those that stayed this Tuesday to help cover for 2nd & 3rd grade. Please pass along to all of your friends that we are always in need of more volunteers - particularly at this age group right now. It is very unfortunate but if we can't get enough people to cover the volunteer time slots, these grades won't get to run. We are not able to cover this safely with just 2 volunteers. Also, if someone wants to come out and help even though the volunteer slots are full, that is totally fine.
More Volunteers needed for Thursday afterschool
Please pass along to all of your friends that we are always in need of more volunteers especially when we are doing Findley Flyers in an undercover area if it's raining.
Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you again for all of your help!

3-5 Author Visit 11/14: Aron Nels Steinke
TAG Updates
In mid-November, K-2 students in Beaverton may be nominated for the COGAT test. This test measures students’ learned reasoning abilities through verbal/picture analogies, number analogies, and figure matrices.
Currently, the main purpose for administering the CogAT is to identify students for TAG in the area of intellectual ability. If you feel you want your child tested, please discuss this with your teacher and fill out this parent form: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-LNUiYXZq33VUbu0W9pUys2SUvo_w5K/view?usp=share_link
These will be due on Monday, November 13th at the end of the day.
There will be no ITBS testing this year. Students in 3-5th will be taking the OSAS in the spring and these scores will possibly be looked at for TAG identification. These details about identification through OSAS are currently being worked on and we will let you know as soon as we find out.
For more information about testing, please see our Findley TAG webpage and then contact Shannon Bauck and/or Kari Ray.

Change of Go Home Plans?
If you are changing how your student is going home, please make sure you contact the office. You may email fndly-communications@beaverton.k12.or.us or phone 503.356.2100.
Notifying the office allows them to know exactly where your student should be and helps us keep them safe!
Thank you for your help!
