Weekly Highlights
Twenty-five students will represent Walled Lake Consolidated Schools at the DECA state competition
Twenty-five Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ students shined on Saturday at the DECA district competition in Berkley punching their tickets to the state competition on March 14-16 in Detroit.
Walled Lake Western will send seven students as individuals, as well as two teams to the state competition. Shivani Aji and Rozeiria Nichols qualified in Hotel and Lodging Management, Matthew Lown and Daniel Morales in Principals of Finance, Farah Fehidat in Apparel and Accessories Marketing, Bryce Zachariah in Business Services Marketing, and Vidya Vuyyuru in Human Resources Management. The two Warriors’ teams are Roman Adhakari and Daniel Raskin (Business Law and Ethics), and Aditya Chitapu and Aditya Gupta (Hospitality Services).
Ten students will represent Walled Lake Northern at the state competition. Vinny Arafat and Owen Weinberger will compete in the Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making event. The Knights also have nine individual qualifiers: Samuel Brikho (Auto Services Marketing), Jacob Kattula (Business Services Marketing), Tim Awad (Human Resources Management), Diana Koval (Personal Finance Literacy), David Devaney (Principals of Finance), Maribella Yono (Retail Merchandising), Natalie Mann (Retail Merchandising), and Luke Miller (Sports and Entertainment).
Walled Lake Central had four students qualify, as well as one alternate. Luke Hocher (Accounting) and Hannah Biel (Principals of Finance) both received test medals as well as qualifying for the state competition. Abigail Piskover (Hotel and Lodging Management) and Sarah Saado (Restaurant and Food Service Management) were the Vikings two other qualifiers. Maranda Sanchez-Sandavol was named an alternate in Principals of Hospitality and Tourism.
Walled Lake Western cheer opens its season with record-setting performance
The Walled Lake Western competitive cheer team was flying high on Saturday as they opened their season with a first-place finish at the CCCAM Scholarship Invitational.
The Warriors took first among 14 teams with a final score of 726.02. Walled Lake Western’s Round 1 score of 231.7 also set a program record for their best opening round score in the month of December.
Walled Lake Western will now prepare for the Lakes Valley Conference competition on January 10, 2024 at Milford High School.
Walled Lake Northern bowling teams takes home the hardware
The Walled Lake Northern bowling team couldn't have asked for a better start to its weekend on Saturday taking first place at the Lakeland Invitational.
Knights' senior Alex Harwood took 3rd place overall with a high game of 258.
LAYA donates boredom bags to Walled Lake Elementary
On Thursday, December 7, LAYA donated 100 "Winter Break Boredom Buster Bags" to all the 4th & 5th graders at Walled Lake Elementary School as part of a pilot program they are launching, spearheaded by Stacy Pasini, LAYA Caseworker.
"Thank you, Lakes Area Youth Assistance, for the Boredom Buster bags for winter break," said Julie Amann, principal of Walled Lake Elementary. "Our 4th and 5th graders were ecstatic for this generous surprise!"

Congratulations to Haley Hill
Haley Hill, GSRP teacher and primetime care supervisor at the Early Childhood Center, received a Golden Apple award at the December 7, 2023 Board of Education meeting. Although her nominator chose to remain anonymous, she said that Haley is always coming up with ways to add fun to her class and pays special attention to what her children need in her care and creates a wonderful environment.
Haley is motivated by her love of being a teacher to our youngest learners. She represents the District positively by being involved in many activities within the community. Haley is supportive to all, and has a positive and fun attitude.
Congratulations to Heather Hill
Heather Hill, GSRP teacher and primetime care supervisor at the Early Childhood Center, received a Golden Apple award at the November 2, 2023 Board of Education meeting. Although her nominator chose to remain anonymous, she said that Heather is dedicated to her job, shows up with smiles and laughter, and always has a great attitude.
Heather is motivated by her love of teaching. She represents the District positively by being a pillar of the community. Heather thinks outside the box and lets her class explore the world around them in such fun and amazingly creative ways.
District announces Annual MLK Celebration - Jan. 15, 2024
The entire Walled Lake Consolidated Schools community is invited to attend the District's 25th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 15, 2024. This year's celebration will at Walled Lake Northern High School with a tour of student exhibits starting at 5 p.m. and a formal program starting at 6:15 p.m.
This year’s theme is “You Belong” with the focus on inclusivity. Our keynote speaker is Kevin Szawala, aka “Mr. Peace”. Kevin is a National Youth Speaker and Michigan native who travels the county speaking to students and schools on the topics of bullying prevention, diversity and inclusion, teen mental health, and suicide awareness.
