Socktober was a huge success! Thank you to all of our generous families at Salford Hills for donating socks for our Bean Bag Program sock collection. As a school, we filled 9 large boxes of socks. Families who are supported by the Bean Bag Program will receive socks this holiday season, warming both hearts & feet! Thank you!

The 5th grade teachers and Mr. Burns will be holding a parent meeting on November 14th from 5:30 to 6:15 in the cafeteria to introduce Outdoor School, give details about the trip, and get parent feedback. We would love for at least one member of each 5th grade family to be able to attend. This meeting will be for parents only, no students at this time. If you are not able to make it, please don't worry, information will also be sent home after the meeting for you.

In the spirit of the holiday season, Salford Hills is accepting gift cards to be provided to families in need. All gift cards will be distributed to families in our school community. If you are interested in contributing to our holiday giving drive, please send gift cards to Salford Hills, addressed to Mrs. Seaman, school counselor. Gift cards must be turned in by WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6th.

Gift card ideas include: Target, Walmart, Kohls, Amazon, etc.

Salford Hills will be conducting an ALICE intruder drill on Friday November 10th at 10:00am. Students and teachers will focus on locking down their classroom and using the secondary locking devices on their classroom doors. The drill is expected to take approximately 10 minutes, and parents will be notified once it is complete.

Salford Hills would like to thank our Home and School Association for providing the opportunity to have author and illustrator Daniel Jude Miller visit Salford Hills. Students and teachers enjoyed hearing his stories and learning about how to bring their own stories to life.

Thank you to all the families that came out to Family Game Night sponsored by our Home and School Association! Families were able to play many different games together and had a great time!

The 1st grade Challenge class explored Keva Blocks. The "challenge" was to build a free-standing letter. It took hard work and persistence to complete this task but was worth it...as you can see! The letter "H" never looked so good!

The 3rd grade Challenge class has been learning about color and using the Pixar Color Suite to apply concepts of color and light science to their learning. The students used "base colors" and then mixed tints and shades to create lighter and darker versions of the base colors. Next, they will investigate the artist, Wassily Kandisnsky, the pioneer of abstract modern art and a color synaesthetic artist—he could "hear" color.

The 4th grade Challenge students have been investigating inventions and the process of inventing. They have also learned about "Growth Mindset" and how inventors apply the concepts of growth mindset (optimism, resilience, flexibility, empathy, and persistence) to the inventive process!

The 5th grade Challenge students are learning about economics and participating in the online SIGMA Stock Market Game simulation. Each team is investing $100,000 from October-December and tracking their progress. Currently, our Salford Hills 5th graders are in, 1st and 2nd place—outperforming many teams, mostly from middle schools!

Our next Home & School Meeting will be Tuesday Nov. 14th at 6:15pm in the SH Cafeteria. The Indian Valley Education Foundation (IVEF) will be there to make a brief presentation and answer any questions you may have. Please join us to meet other parents, learn about HSA events and volunteer opportunities, as well as bring any ideas, concerns, or questions to the Board. Childcare will be provided. We hope to see you there!

In preparation for your child's use of a 1-to-1 device in the 2023-2024 school year, please complete the Mobile Device Use Agreement and pay the device protection fee. Please see the details below.

• Option 1 - Complete agreement and pay fee online.

• Option 2 - Print agreement and make payment in-person: Complete and sign the Student/Parent Agreement (English | Spanish | Vietnamese). Please send the signed agreement and payment for the device fee to school with your child.

Devices will be distributed to students during the first week of school.

The Salford Hills HSA invites you to volunteer at Salford Hills this year! The HSA helps coordinate volunteers for classroom activities, social events, school events, etc. As a volunteer, you are welcome to serve as much or as little as you wish. For example, help during a specific event, assist in organizing an event, lead a committee, help in your child's classroom, and more. There are so many ways to serve Salford Hills and we would love to connect you with opportunities that would be a good fit for you and your family.

In order to be contacted regarding these opportunities, you must join our volunteer list by filling out the form below. There is no commitment by joining our volunteer list. By signing up, you will simply join our list to be notified of events needing volunteers and other opportunities to get involved.
