The purpose is to meet the teacher(s), learn about the academic goals and find out how to support your child's success this year. All parents are also encouraged to attend the Title 1 Annual Public Meeting from 4:15-4:45 pm in the cafeteria which is repeated Friday, 9/22 from 9:15-9:45 am.

During BTS Night you can also:

• Purchase Powell Spirit Wear T-Shirts ($10 to $20, cash only)
• Get support with using ParentVue or Canvas
• Apply to become a VIPS (Volunteer in Public Schools)
• Vote in the School Site Council Election (parents elect parent members)
• Learn about Mental Health Services at Powell and in our community
• Find out about Early Learning pre-school programs and early interventions

🦅 Parent Voices Matter!! We are still seeking nominations! Powell is in the process of electing new members to the School Site Council (SSC) for the 2023-2024 school year. The SSC reviews and updates Powell's Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) including expenditures of funds. The SSC must develop, approve, and recommend the plan to the local governing board for approval, monitor its implementation and evaluate the effectiveness at least annually. Members of the SSC include the principal, three teachers, one other school staff member, and five parents. Members of the SSC are elected by their peers, therefore parents are elected by parents. A member serves for two years. This year, Powell must elect three parents to the SSC. Please consider joining the Powell SSC to be a part of our continuous improvement. Meetings are held once a month on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm. If you are interested in nominating yourself for SSC, please submit this nomination form by September 19, 2023. Elections will be held at Back to School Night on September 21, 2023.

Remember, this is just a nomination form; the parent election will determine the 3 new elected parents.

Parents of English Language Learners are encouraged to join the ELAC Committee. The purpose is to share the unique needs and experiences of students learning English. Committee members advise the school on programs to support the success of English Learners at Powell. Meetings are scheduled once per month, on Fridays at 9:30 am. The first meeting is Friday, September 27 at 9:30 am in the parent center.

Middle School A/B Schedule-White squares are A days, Blue squares are B days

Thank you for your efforts sending students to school in uniform. It helps us set the focus for learning on our campus. As a reminder, uniform at Powell consists of:

• Navy blue or black shorts, pants, skirts, shorts or jumpers
• White, red or blue shirts with collars
• Powell Spirit Wear shirts may be worn any day

Middle School students are expected to wear their school ID and lanyard every day.

FREE UNIFORMS for ALL STUDENTS: Please return the uniform order sent home by the counselor, Mr. Arreola to receive two uniform sets for each of your children.

**Any parent/guardian who does not want their child to wear school uniforms is required to have a conference with the principal before a waiver can be signed. Call the school office to schedule an appointment.**

Exciting news Powell families! Our fall fundraiser is coming! All items in our fundraiser are only $10. Your student will be receiving their fundraising packet on September 27. More information will follow in next week’s newsletter.

📸 Fall Pictures 10/10 & 10/11-Students wear the school uniform for these pictures. This picture will be used on IDs and in the yearbook. Spring pictures will be "free dress" day. Parents may choose purchase photos in the fall and/or spring.

There are many ways to celebrate and honor diversity. Building cultural literacy helps our students become ethical decision makers in our diverse world.
