Boys Winter Track
The Methacton Boy's Track Team traveled to the NYC Armory Sunday night along with 150 other PA schools, to compete against some of the fiercest competition the region has to offer.
The night started for Methacton with the Boy's 4x800, a heavily seeded race that saw the top 4 teams finishing with the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th fastest times in the entire country and another 3 teams running in the top 25. Charlie Reith, Mitchell Alexander, Matthew Sandner and Curtis Alexander competed hard to finish 13th in the race with a time of 8:33.08, currently 24th in the state.
Shortly afterward, Colin O'Donnell led the charge for the warriors in the Mile with a 19th place finish and big PR of 4:42.55. He was the fastest sophomore in the field. Teammates Ben Freese and Akhil Yeluri also ran PRs, both finishing in the top 45 out of 130 athletes.
In the sprints, Brandon Lee ran a 7.68 in the 60m dash, a big PR. Warren Simard and JJ Layos led the way in the 200 and 400.
However, about halfway through the meet Yasser Jarhale put an exclamation mark on the night for the warriors, finishing 4th in the boy's high jump. Jumping 5-11 on his first attempt, he easily beat his PR from the spring season. He will look to build on this mark in the coming weeks, as the 5-11 mark puts him 27th in the state.
The night wasn't over for the team. In the field, Jr David Burnette threw a big PR of 38-02 in the shot put for a 14th place finish.
The warriors will travel a small group of athletes up the street to Ursinus this Friday before dedicating a few weeks to training. The young team continues to improve and gain valuable experience.
