General Information

At 6:30 pm, the September Regular BOE meeting was called to order by President Snider. All seven members were present. The consent agenda was approved including board bills. Superintendent Kashner shared information regarding the Northwest Division dinner taking place on October 24th in Scales Mound and that the meeting will be the first ever hybrid meeting. Several board members indicated that they would like to attend. Board committee dates were discussed. Superintendent Kashner shared that the district's audit is now completed and he expects final results for the October board meeting. He stated that he anticipates another solid report due to the quality of work that Mrs. Janssen and Mrs. Hartman do on a daily basis. The board discussed the school board conference that is upcoming in November. Member Waller passed around a former Eastland magazine from over 15 years ago to show how much we have grown. Superintendent Kashner commented that those magazines were a great way to spread the word about our district.

Old Business

In Old Business, the BOE approved the request for snow plow bids and use of school facilities.


Snow plow bids will be due on Thursday, October 13th at 1 pm. Superintendent Kashner commented that the specifications of the bids remain the same as previous years and he is hopeful for continued competitive bids. The use of facilities by the Eastland Athletic Club (E.A.C.) for Fall basketball league were approved from October 16 through Nov 20.

New Business

In New Business, the BOE approved adding a .2 time speech language pathologist position and a preliminary architectural study at Lion's park.


The additional speech language services will be utilized primarily at the junior/senior high. The additional position will allow for more of our current speech pathologist's time to be dedicated to preK students. President Snider asked how pay rate will be determined. Superintendent Kashner shared that the position will be paid on the salary schedule as all certified staff, but at .2 of the annual salary and prorated for the length of the year.


An architectural study not to exceed $3,000 was approved for Lion's park to determine the cost to make upgrades. Superintendent Kashner shared that he spoke with the district's architect to determine the potential cost and is confident it will come in under that mark. Member Henze commented that the discussion with our lease partner, the Shannon's Lion's Club, went well and they are interested in assisting. Member Heldt asked how the students will benefit and a discussion was held regarding what impact the protentional upgrades could have.

Supt. Report

In the Superintendent Report, Dr. Kashner shared information on the upcoming school report card. The Illinois School Report card is an annual report on school districts that will be shared with the public in late October. This year, there are five new metrics that will be utilized in factoring scores including, equity journey continuum, annual summative designation, career and technical education (CTE), assessment data, and teacher certification. Superintendent Kashner shared that he felt very confident on the work of the district and is excited to share the report once it is published.
