"THE LEARNING PLACE" October 2022
After years of streamlining expenses and maintaining a lean budget, in order to maintain our high-quality schools, the district is seeking additional funds. SMFCSD will be on the ballot for a new levy of 6.93 mills to maintain its current daily operations, including teachers and staff, programs, and utilities. This is mainly due to state funding not keeping pace with inflation or enrollment increases. In addition, over time, with inflation, when your home value goes up, your tax rate goes down so that the school district receives roughly the same amount of money each year. Remember, by passing Issue 6, all of the district’s current operations will stay in place. Please take a moment to gather all of the facts and then head out to vote on November 8th!

HALLOWEEN INFORMATION
HALLOWEEN COSTUME GUIDELINES
When sending in your child’s costume, we ask the following:
No blood and gore (We have ages 5-10 who participate in our parade)
No weapons· No costume masks – Too dangerous as we go up and down steps!
Inflatable costumes make it hard to maneuver up and down the stairs. Please choose something different for our school party.
Students will not be permitted to change in the restroom – The costume should be able to be changed into in the classroom.
Do not send your child to school in full makeup or dyed/sprayed hair as this is very distracting to learning.
HALLOWEEN PARADE & PARTY NEWS
This year the Halloween Parade and Party will take place on October 28th.
Our parade will begin at 2:35 and will take place on our blacktop playground area. If you wish to come to the parade, please arrive by 2:25 and find a socially distanced spot to sit or stand around the perimeter of the blacktop. You may wish to bring a lawn chair. After the parade, our students will re-enter the building for the class party and visitors will then leave the school grounds. In case of rain, the parade will be moved indoors but visitors will not be permitted.
PLEASE NOTE - As a district, we only allow five fingerprinted adults in the classroom party. The PTA will notify you if you are one of the five. If you were not chosen for this party, know that we have an additional opportunity in February. If you are coming to set up for the Halloween party, you may arrive and sign in with the PTA at 2:20. If you arrive before 2:20 you will be asked to wait. We will dismiss the volunteers to the classrooms at 2:20.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Here is information from our local educational service center about the nationwide 988 system:
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
The Lifeline’s network of over 200 crisis centers has been in operation since 2005, and has been proven to be effective. It’s the counselors at these local crisis centers who answer the contacts the Lifeline receives every day. Numerous studies have shown that callers feel less suicidal, less depressed, less overwhelmed and more hopeful after speaking with a Lifeline counselor.
