Dear Parents and carers,

I hope you are all well - it was lovely to see so many of you on both campuses for our Jubilee street party/picnic last week. The children had a great time and there are some fantastic pictures for you to see later in the newsletter.

The government has published their ideas on how to improve SEND processes in England in a 'Green Paper'. They want to hear the views of parents / carers, young people and children.

There are two ways to tell the Government what you think:

1) The link to the Government's survey is here: DfE Green Paper Consultation These responses will be counted individually.

2) The National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) has also developed a (simpler) version here: NNPCF Survey. This should take no more than 10 - 15 minutes to complete. The responses from this survey will be used to inform the NNPCF’s response to the Green Paper consultation.

The survey will close on 22 July 2022.

As ever there is much to celebrate in our classes so please do read our class celebrations! I look forward to seeing some of you next week for our parents evenings.

Olive Class have made the most of the sunshine and completed lots of activities outside, usually with water! We have been working on playing together and sharing and have had some lovely moments. We had a great music therapy session with some amazing work from the students. Our star of the week is Kiaraa for her participation in music and movement sessions this week. Have a lovely weekend.

Iris Class have enjoyed exploring using their senses this week. They have played with ice and how to break it to get the toys hidden within it. They have also been exploring potatoes and reading the story 'Supertato'.

Our star of the week is Abdi for a great community visit to the cafe.

Sapphire would like to say a big well done to Saahill for working hard to follow instructions this week.

Indigo have been enjoying the great outdoors and have been to the park as a group. This week we'd like to say a big well done to Brian for a successful outing.

Capri enjoyed swimming this week, they had an additional student from Sapphire and they enjoyed interacting with their new friend.

Despite the heat Shaun has stayed regulated and taken part in activities. Well done Shaun!

This week in Lime class we have definitely been enjoying the weather and in our early numeracy session have been looking at capacity by emptying and filling containers in the cold water play. We really enjoyed our football session this week and are all working hard on kicking the balls. Our celebration star this week goes to Zaid for working hard with his self-care skills, helping adults to make his cheese on toast and following instructions outside of his normal routine.

This week Violet class have explored a new topic in their lesson 'The World Around Me' looking at animals that live in the jungle and their habitat. Students have engaged in some play activities with the toy animals as well as making their own jungle with recycled materials.

Our learner of the week is Joanna for requesting items that are not in her immediate environment and using 2 key words to request for the item or for help with low levels of adult support.

This week in Thistle Class we have been really busy, we spent some time celebrating the Queens Jubilee and the students enjoyed a drama class looking with a focus on adjectives - they each had a turn in acting out different responses to those key words including carrying 'heavy' bags, smelling 'smelly' trainers, touching 'hot' oven trays. We enjoyed our usual trips out including the gym and cafe where they are increasing their independence in placing their own orders. Well done Thistle.

This week in Mint we had many opportunities to explore and play with water. We went swimming on Monday, we had water play outside where we have been working on pouring 'in/out' from a variety of containers, we explored ice and mixing colours to create rainbow bottles.
This week our start of the week goes to Joshua H for consistently requesting 'more' and 'go' using his finger to point at the approximate area of his core board and showing this to different adults. Well done Joshua!!!

Lily Class star of the week is Aychin for refusing her wheelchair​ and walking from the bus to the classroom. She has also done some great focussed learning during our Sheldon the Snail sensory story including following instructions, pushing the switch to move the story along when asked and choosing items that correspond to the story correctly. Well done Aychin!

Tulip class have loved the sunny weather this week and have enjoyed games, music and sensory stories out in the courtyard. Our star of the week this week is Jeysha who attended to a novel activity for over one minute. She was playing with instruments she does not normally use such as the keyboard and drums with a drum stick and really enjoyed the session. Well done Jeysha! We would aslo like to say a big thank you to Robyn, our teaching assistant, who is leaving on maternity leave to have her baby. She will be greatly missed by the staff and the pupils and we can't wait to meet her new baby boy.

This week in Marigold we would like to celebrate Imogen, This week she has been following instructions to help in the classroom, responding to staff verbal prompts with a quick response time. Imogen has also been engaging in all learning tasks using her AAC. Well done!

Daisy Class have worked hard exploring a range of different roles; including cooking, gardening and building. They have particularly enjoyed experiencing the role of a builder, using bricks, sand and replica tools.

Daisy Class star of the week is Z'rae. Z'rae has worked hard and has tried new and unfamiliar activities including; boccia and scalextrics.​

In Bamboo well done Hannah you have again recently demonstrated your stamina when walking. We are as proud of you as you are of yourself.

Bluebell star of the week is Abi! She has taken initiative to interact with her friends during swimming and soft play. She has been participating in all the lessons, and has been interacting with less familiar people. She has been talking a lot about her friends during class and is using longer and more complex sentences. Well done, Abi!

Orchid class star of the week is Connor for independently asking for help to turn on a cause and effect toy by saying 'help' and using the Makaton sign.

The Star of the week in Poppy Class is Ty. He walked so well to Asda and back with his class , which was a massive achievement for him. He has also been fantastic at participating in his lessons and transitioning all week. Well done Ty!
