Principal's Message
School Safety
It is midway through the school year, and we want to send the following reminders:
Entry to school needs to occur through the main door. Please do not prop open the gates or use any method to open the gates from the outside. If you need to go to your car or check out for the day, you must check out at the front office; leaving out a gate or side door is not appropriate.
Students, please note the speed limit in the parking lot at arrival, lunch, and dismissal. If you continue to speed, do donuts, or engage in unsafe behaviors your parking privileges may be revoked.
January 26 - Last Day of First Semester
Friday, January 26th is the last day to get missing work in for Semester 1. Classes count towards your graduation credits and core classes will need to be made up. More information on credits and courses can be found in the Course Catalog.

Student Body Announcements
The Red Cross Blood Drive was a success, even when having to overcome inclement weather on January 10th! Students, staff, and community members visited campus to donate blood - we had more people interested than spots available. Thank you TigerScots, and remember that each pint of blood saves one life.

114 students attended 90% or more days in December. Seniors represented the largest percentage of those students! Remember, every day matters.
Class of 2024 Reminders
Landrie will be at the school next Monday, the 29th from 12:45 - 1:20 and 2:15 - 3:10 collecting signatures to appear on the class shirt. Students may elect to use a digital signature or just their first name.
January 31st - Deadline to order Cap and Gown from Josten's
Please send your quote and senior photos to the yearbook team by spring break.
Reading Tree
Add a leaf to the tree on the bulletin board by the Computer Lab for every book you read until the end of the school year. Take a leaf from the bulletin board, write the book's name and author, and your name, and turn it into Mrs. Wortman or Mrs. Steele. This is for staff and students to complete.
Treasure Trunk
Come visit the TigerScot Treasure trunk at Weston Middle School!!
The TigerScot Treasure Trunk (TTT) is open for students regularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:15-1:25 p.m. Students and families can find winter clothing, personal hygiene products, and outfits.
A Big Thank You goes out to our volunteers, Athena Christian Church, Pacific Power Foundation, Knights of Columbus, Blattner Energy, Elliot Fund, Cowboy Christmas Ball, and Mr. Leo and Donna Doyle!
School to Careers
Health Career Exploration Camp for High School Students: MedQuest is designed for high school students interested in learning more about careers in health care. Applications are now open. See Jane Waldher for more information.
Are you interested in hosting an intern this Summer in Umatilla County but want to learn more?
The Eastern Oregon Workforce Board (EOWB) is hosting a Umatilla County Employer Luncheon on January 31st at the Hermiston Public Library in the Community Room. This will include an info session on the Eastern Oregon WORKS Summer Internship Program hosted by the Internship Coordinator, a chance to meet the new Youth Program Coordinator, an opportunity to network, and lunch is on us!
Clubs Corner
Atina Club
Atina Club members recently finished the construction of their tule mats, picked a book they would like to listen to in addition to a book they would like to read to elementary students, and are working on decorating a new display case for the club at the high school.
Communicare and National Honor Society
Coming up at Gem on Saturday, January 27, two showings of this 1970s classic Sasquatch film, the producer of which will be on hand and we may convince him to say a few words. This is a joint fundraiser between the WM High School CommuniCare Club and the WM Honor Society. CommuniCare is funded through the Schnitzer Foundation, each dollar raised is matched 10:1 up to $750 total and the funds then granted out to local food banks.
Shows will at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Admission at the door is $10 including popcorn.
National Honor Society
See above dual project with Communicare at the GEM.
The Cake Raffle for the Hall of Fame games is an individual NHS student project, with all proceeds benefitting the Weston Food Bank.
FFA
FFA district competition has been rescheduled; a new date will be announced shortly.
Congratulations to Dena Loiland for placing third in the Toastmasters District No. 9 second annual Gary L. Hildebrand Memorial Youth Speech Contest. Dena spoke about, "Common Misconceptions in Agriculture".
Snow Club
Introducing the TigerScot Snow Club – a program designed for 6-12th grade TigerScots who are eager to experience the thrill of skiing or snowboarding with trips to Bluewood on Fridays in March. There is a parent/student TigerScot Snow Club informational meeting on Wednesday, January 31st, at 4:45 p.m. in the high school commons.
Technology Student Association
The next competition is February 29th. Students will have the opportunity to compete in Architectural Design, CAD Engineering, and Promotional Design.

Softball
Announcements
Softball open gym will start Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-9 PM in the Weston lower gym. Players in season please discuss this opportunity with your basketball coach. If you have not played a sport yet this year please check with Carla Salter about your most current physical exam and any other forms and fees that need to be paid prior to the season.
