Friday Update
Happy Friday Foster's Finest,
As I have been preparing this newsletter I began to reflect upon the entire school year. Our school is so fortunate to have the volume of parents volunteering their time to help us in so many ways. Our staff truly appreciates all that you do throughout the year to support us. There is not a day that goes by in which I do not encounter a parent volunteer in our school. There has not been a month in which there were no special events for our students. The last two months of school have multiple events, enrichments, field trips, and opportunities to just have fun as a community. We are fortunate to have so many people willing to step up and contribute to our school and the experiences that our students are provided. I know it is not yet over and there is much work to be done as we finish the final weeks of school but it is important to reflect and be thankful.
We had our kindergarten screening this past week. We are thrilled to have met with our incoming kindergarten friends. This was our first "normal" screening in a number of years due to the pandemic. Our staff had the opportunity to spend some time with each child and complete the screening with them 1:1. We also had the opportunity to watch them interact and engage in activities with one another. This is so helpful for us to be able to meet the students to support our making of classroom lists for next year. A big thank you to our parents for making the time to bring our new friends to school.
I wish you all a fantastic weekend!

Hingham High Tennis Fundraiser
The HHS girls tennis teams are holding a fundraiser on May 20th, from 12-3, by offering an hour of lessons and games to the town's elementary students. These will take place on Cronin courts (behind town hall).
There is no cost, but donations would be greatly appreciated, and half the proceeds will go to Maddie's Promise.
To sign up, parents should fill out this google form. Availability is first come first serve, and each time slot will be capped at 30 players. Please reach out to beepsimmy@gmail.com if you have any questions.
We hope you will support the girls' team and a good cause!
Pennies for Poppies
Next week in honor of Memorial Day we will be collecting donations for The Hingham Veterans Council who will be providing the school Poppies for our Memorial Day Celebration. There will be a jar in the lobby for students and staff to donate money through the end of next week. Thank you for supporting our Veterans and remembering those who served and lost their lives fighting for our Country.
Math Olympics Celebration
Congratulations to all our Math Olympians! Students who participated in the program and earned a certificate and medal will receive both from their classroom teacher on Thursday, May 25th. All students will be recognized at our Memorial Day Celebration! A number of students in grade 5 will also be recognized for their participation in Math Olympics throughout their years at Foster School.
Gr. 1-5 2023 Summer Acceleration Academy
During the summers of 2021 and 2022, Hingham Public Schools utilized federal grant funding to offer a Summer Acceleration Academy program, designed to address pandemic learning loss and provide an additional opportunity for reading and math interventions. This summer, the district will use some remaining funding to continue this offering for one final year. Invitations will be issued based on district-wide reading and math data collected through our multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) and 30 district-wide seats will be available per grade level for rising Gr. 1-5 students. The program will be held at East School on Monday-Thursday from 8:30-11:30 AM during the weeks of 8/7, 8/14 and 8/21. Transportation will not be provided. Invitations will be issued during the week of May 15th.

Are you interested in being a “Big Buddy” parent for incoming Kindergarten Families or Families new to Foster?
Looking for an easy volunteer opportunity? The PTO is putting together a "Big Buddy” program for all new incoming Foster Families. The responsibility of a big buddy is to field questions parents new to Foster may have. How many recesses does my child get? How do kids order lunch? How do I navigate the loop? What is the PTO? Encourage them to go to a PTO meeting or PTO sponsored event. Lastly, to be a familiar face to them around the Foster community. Please email Renee Cedorchuk for more information. rcianelli@gmail.com
