Girls’ Hockey: The girls’ hockey team had a great week of very competitive playoff hockey as they upset #3 Seed Metro-South on Wednesday at Burnsville and then came up just short against #2 Rosemount last night and saw their season come to an end with a 2-1 loss. The Lightning played their best hockey at the end of the year and came up just 90 seconds short of advancing to the Section Final.
Competition Cheer: Congratulations to the Varsity Comp Cheer Team who competed on Friday in the Game Day Non-Tumbling Division at the UCA National Cheer Championships in Orlando, Florida. The team had a great performance and advanced to Semis on Saturday! They once again had a very solid performance, but did not advance to finals. They finished 17th in the country in their division and definitely have a bright future ahead with such a young team. Congrats to Coach Navarro and the entire team on a great season!

Girls Wrestling: The Girls Individual Wrestling Sections was moved up one week this year and also held this weekend! The number of girls wrestling in the MSHSL has more than doubled since last year and thus the section tournament was much bigger and tougher this year due to the rapid growth and led to the adjusted schedule. Eastview sent four wrestlers to the Girls Sections Wrestling tournament on Saturday at Hastings: Jannelle Mendez (11), Riley Myers (11), Caitlyn Tighe (9), & Elsie Olson (10). Jannelle Mendez racked up 3 wins to earn 5th place in her first year of wrestling! Elsie Olson lost a heartbreaker in the semis and eventually earned 4th place. Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey vs. the Lakeville North Panthers – February 11, 2023
The Lightning were looking to avenge an earlier 2-0 loss to the Panthers and avoid being swept in the season series. The Lightning arguably had the better of the play in first period, outshooting the Panthers 12-9, but Lakeville North scored late in the period at 16:32, an even strength goal making it 1-0 Panthers. Lakeville scored right after a Lightning power play (PP) had expired. Eastview came out strong in the 2nd period, scoring at just 27 seconds into the period, when Zach Wooten #9 scored an even strength goal on a rebound with assists to John Kisch #5 and Jordan Brothers #11. Lakeville North also scored before the period was a minute old, a PP goal to go back up 2-1 at 55 seconds. Goalie Jay Svaren #32 had no chance on a beautifully tipped puck from the point. Shots for the 2nd period were 11-6 in favor of the Lightning. Eastview tied the score 2-2 early in the 3rd period at 5:57 on PP goal by Brayden Kaldenbach #7, assists to Tyler Cordes #6 and Billy Downs #23. The Panthers took the lead 3-2 at 10:06 of the 3rd period, an even strength goal that ended up being the game winner. Lakeville outshot the Lightning 14-9 in the last period, but Eastview outshot Lakeville North 32-29 for the game. The Lightning fell to 13-9 on the season, and are back in action on Tuesday evening at home against Apple Valley Burnsville.
Eastview Varsity Boys Hockey vs. the Rosemount Irish – February 7, 2023
The Lightning were looking to avenge a previous 4-0 loss to the Irish earlier in the season. Rosemount scored first at 1:28 of the 1st period on a deflected shot from the point, definitely a bad bounce off an Eastview defenseman, handcuffing goalie Jay Svaren #32. The Irish went up 2-0 on the power play (PP) at 9:28 of the 1st period. Eastview cut the lead in half to 1-2 at 14:57 on an even strength goal by Tanner Kronberg #17, the lone assist to Caleb Nelson #20. The period ended with the Irish up 2-1, with Rosemount leading in shots 10-6. Eastview built some momentum in the 2nd period by outshooting the Irish 9-6, but neither team was able to light the lamp, so the score was still 2-1 Irish. The lightning tied the game 2-2 at 2:25 of the 3rd period, on a PP goal by Charlie Ortman #26, assists to Logan Opgrand #2 and John Kisch #5. Eastview took the lead 3-2 on an even strength goal at 6:49 of the 3rd on an even strength goal by Billy Downs #23, the lone assist going to Tanner Kronberg #17. Unfortunately the Lightning took 2 penalties late in the game, both resulting in PP goals by the Irish, at 10:42 and 14:18, and Rosemount swept the season series with Eastview with a 4-3 victory. Shots in the 3rd period were 11 a piece, and the final shots for the game were 27-26 in favor of the Irish. The Lightning fell to 13-8 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday at the Apple Valley Sports Arena against Lakeville North, looking to avenge another early season loss to the Panthers.
Girls Basketball: The girls still have two weeks left in the regular season and travel to Lakeville North on Tuesday night. Their playoffs are scheduled for March 1st, March 4th and Section Championship Game is Thursday, March 9th. All games will be played at the site of the higher seeded team. Teams who qualify will participate in the State Tournament at Williams Arena March 15-18.
CI and PI Hockey: Our Dakota Hawks teams are both off and running with their seasons and have two weeks left of regular season play. They will host a CI/PI doubleheader here at Eastview on February 22nd. At 5:30 (PI) and 7:00 (CI0. Their playoffs are still TBD based on their regular season finish. Their State Tournament, if they should qualify, will be held March 17-18 at Bloomington Jefferson.
Boys Basketball: The boys still have three weeks left in the regular season and will host Lakeville North on Tuesday night. Their playoffs are scheduled for March 7th, March 10th and their Section Championship Game is March 16th all at the site of the higher seeded team. Teams who qualify will participate in the State Tournament at Target Center March 21-25.
Good luck to all of our teams and Go Lightning!

District 196 Moving Forward with May 9 Bond Referendum Election: Two-Question Special Election Addresses District’s Facilities and Equipment Needs
District 196 School Board on Monday unanimously approved a resolution calling for a two-question bond referendum election on May 9, 2023, to address the district’s facilities and equipment needs for the next 10 years and beyond.
That was the recommendation of the administration and members of a Facilities and Equipment Steering Committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the district’s facilities and equipment needs over the last year and a half. The committee developed a facilities master plan and recommended the first phase of improvements to address needs in the areas of safety, security and supervision; space for growth, and providing students and families a more consistent experience in facilities across the district.
The proposed improvements were presented as preliminary recommendations at the Nov. 14 School Board meeting. They were then presented for public input during three nights of focus group dialogues in November, and online via a form on the district website. Learn more.
