Second Semester Begins Tuesday, January 23rd.
The beginning of the second semester will be Tuesday, Janaury 23rd. Due to the cancellation of school on Tuesday, January 16th, we had to extend the semester one day to finish up exams.
WHS Business Professionals of America Students Compete at Regionals
Westwood Students Qualify for State BPA Competition
Upper Peninsula business students converged on Bay College in Escanaba for the 2024 Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Conference on Friday, January 12. These high school students from across the Upper Peninsula gathered to compete in contests relating to finance, business administration, management/marketing/communications, information technology, and digital technology skills. Twenty-three Westwood High School student members, along with teachers Rachel Perala and Sabina Villar, participated in this regional competition, and 21 Westwood students have qualified to compete at the state level of competition. Westwood’s state qualifiers and awards earned are:

These students will represent Westwood High School at the 2024 BPA State Leadership Conference in March at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, where they will compete with students from across Michigan, attend workshops designed to aid in professional development, and gain valuable skills. Top students at the state conference will advance to the National Leadership Conference to be held in Chicago, Illinois in May.
Counseling Department Updates
- The deadline for making schedule changes is Friday, January 26th at 3:00 pm. Students should schedule a time to meet with their conselor during the hour of the course they are looking to change.
- Spring testing dates for juniors
- April 10th - SAT
- April 11th - ACT Workkeys
- April 12th - MSTEp
- Start preparing for SAT through practice tests on khan academy or college board
- Scheduling - counselors will be in classrooms to do scheduling for grades 9-11 sometime between February and March (reminder to parents to chat with their student about course planning or to reach out to counselor with Qs)
- Seniors attending college in Fall be sure to file the FAFSA! Please contact the counseling office if you have questions
- Local scholarships are now available to seniors via their Google Classroom.
- Career Fair at NMU on May 9 for students in 11th grade.
Winter Carnival Update
Winter Carnival will be the week of January 22nd through January 26th. Here is a brief run-down of what is going on.
Dress-up days are as follows:
Mon: dress to un-impress day (wear sweats, lounge pants, etc)
Tues: jersey day
Wed: anything but a backpack day
Thurs: winter sports day
Fri: red, white, and pink day
We will run an alternative schedule on Friday, January 26th:

hour 3: 9:35--10:15
hour 4: 10:20--11:00
hour 5: 11:05--11:45
lunch: 11:45--12:10
hour 6: 12:15--1:00
