Nearly 400 seniors became official graduates of Trussville City Schools on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Hewitt-Trussville Class of 2022 Graduation Ceremony. Thousands were on hand for the system's largest event of the year. The ceremony was moved from Husky Stadium to Bryant Bank Arena on the day of the event due to the threat of heavy rain, which did materialize at the time of graduation. TCS Board of Education President Mrs. Kathy Brown, TCS Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill, and HTHS Principal Mr. Tim Salem delivered remarks to the crowd ahead of Salutatorian and Valedictorian speeches. Trussville City Council has honored the memory of Dr. John Floyd, a charter Trussville City Schools Board of Education member from 2004-2010, by planting a tree at the new Central Office building. Dr. Floyd's family was on hand for a special Tree Dedication Ceremony on May 23. An open house of the new TCS Central Office building followed the Tree Dedication Ceremony. Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2022-2023 School Year remains underway. Please visit the Student Services/Registration section of our TCS District Website to view and/or download Kindergarten registration packets for Cahaba Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, or Paine Elementary. Kindergarten is a foundational time in a child's academic, social, and emotional growth. It lays the groundwork for the entire K-12 experience. Kindergarten teachers across Trussville City Schools work diligently to ensure the kindergarten experience combines elements of discovery and joy in environments designed to develop a child's self-confidence through independent activities, group activities, and hands-on, project-based learning.

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE)'s Summer Learning Challenge Planning Team wants to help reduce the dreaded "summer slide.” As such, it hopes to prepare our students for the upcoming academic year through summer learning opportunities. The Alabama Summer Learning Challenge officially kicks off Monday, May 23, 2022. All Alabama K-12 students and parents can use these fun learning resources this summer. Trussville City Schools Foundation is excited to once again offer a unique and lasting opportunity to leave your mark with a personalized brick to be installed in the walkways near the concession stands at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium. Individuals, families, and businesses can show their school pride by purchasing an engraved brick. This is also a great way to honor graduating seniors, new kindergarten students, and special teachers or staff members! Bricks can be personalized with names, dates, or special messages. Each brick represents a student, family, or a business and together these bricks represent a community of Hewitt-Trussville Huskies! Pavers ordered are $60 each for a 4" x 8" brick with 1-3 lines of engraving with 18 to 20 characters per line, including spaces. Students age 11 and older entering the 6th grade in Alabama schools must have a tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. Each pupil age 11 or older who enters the 6th grade will be required to have a new certificate of immunization. Schedules will not be released until the student has a current immunization form on file - UNLESS - your child does not turn 11 on or after July 16 - you will have two weeks after their birthday to present the school with a current immunization form.

Congratulations on the completion of another successful school year! For families who have been with us during the past 3 years, we should celebrate together because we persevered and stayed the course during the 2020 shutdown, the 2021 year of instructional options, and the peaks and valleys of variants this year. We have learned that perseverance and resiliency are important character traits that are often overlooked. As we plan this summer for the next school year, we will focus on bringing back our P.A.C.E. (Positive Attitudes Change Everything) program to remind students of good citizenship and character at all grade levels. Look for a survey from us soon as we tailor-make the program for the 2022-23 school year. Also, we will conduct an annual review of our internal school safety plans this summer. Cahaba’s 5th grade Math Team participated in a competition on Saturday, May 7, against other schools from across Alabama. One of the CES teams won 1st Place and qualified for the National Championship, which was held on Thursday, May 12. Students on this award-winning team include Bradleigh Cain, Merritt Daniel, Ben Sharit, Asa Blakely, and Hayes Flournoy. Two of these students, Bradleigh and Merritt, also tied for 3rd Place in the individual competition and qualified for the individual National Championships! Out of more than 60 students from around the country, Bradleigh came in 8th place and Merritt came in 10th. We are so proud of these students and all of our CES Math Team members for the hard work and dedication they have shown this year! -Submitted

Magnolia Elementary lined the bus lines and car lines on the last day of school as nearly 400 students streamed out of the building and into the summer. Various grade-levels were tasked with making decorative signs to wish the students a great summer and thank them and their families for an incredible 2021-2022 School Year.

Paine Elementary School and other TCS elementary schools hosted various grade-level awards ceremonies throughout the month of May. With health restrictions lifted, parents and other families members were able to attend in person ceremonies. For those unable to make these special events due to work or location, school personnel worked hard to livestream the events through Paine Elementary School's social media platforms, chiefly Facebook. If you find yourself in the hallways of Hewitt-Trussville Middle School on most any given Friday during the school year, you’ll likely spot a rolling coffee cart decked out with hot java and all the trimmings. It was an idea that made an impression on Dr. Kimberly Odom when she taught at Calera High School in nearby Shelby County. There, Dr. Odom (an Exceptional Education teacher) watched as a colleague created a magical experience for special needs students by teaching them to engineer and operate a mobile coffee shop for the campus. When Dr. Odom had an opportunity to return to her hometown of Trussville, she decided to re-create that same caffeinated magic for her own students. Seven Hewitt-Trussville High School (HTHS) students have received job/internship offers at major companies following successful completing of work in the Academy for Craft Training (ACT). These students include: James Barger (Goodgame Company); Tyler Paine (Brasfield & Gorrie ); Cameron Williams (Daniel Iron); Tristan Pearcy (Building & Earth); Ryan Carr (RJ Mechanical); Cade Tennyson (Remmert & Company); and William Gallant (summer internship/RJ Mechanical. Students who work at Birmingham's ACT fall under the Academy Programs at HTHS. With a capacity of 250 metro BHM high school juniors and seniors, the Academy of Craft Training is a public/private partnership between the commercial construction industry and the State of Alabama’s K-12 Career and Technical Education System. Its mission is to recruit, educate and guide high school students for educational and employment opportunities in the construction industry.

Hewitt-Trussville High School (HTHS) Advanced Placement (AP) Physics Teacher, Melanie Dimler, and Engineering Academy Teachers Jason Dooley and Tom Moulton have been awarded a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Industry Externship for Summer 2022 through the Alabama STEM Council. This program provides educators with various experiences in STEM-based public and private industries, strengthening the connection between STEM workplaces and the classroom. Through the vision of Mayor Buddy Choat and the full support of the City Council, Leadership Trussville, Inc. was officially formed in March 2022. The purpose of Leadership Trussville is to encourage and educate an annual class of highly motivated individuals who want to strengthen their leadership skills, deepen their sense of civic involvement, and be more involved with ideas and initiatives to better the community while learning first-hand about the issues and needs in Trussville. The inaugural Leadership Trussville program begins in September. Leadership Trussville is accepting applications through June 3. The YMCA of Greater Birmingham offers its Afterschool Childcare Program on-site at all TCS elementary schools. Details and contact information for the program are listed below.
