Character Trait of the Month
Our Character Strong trait for November is GRATITUDE. Check out what each grade level is working on!
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hoover Families,
New playground updates:
- Our new playground equipment was delivered to the vendor last week. Three playgrounds need to be installed before Hoover's. If the weather holds, we may be able to see it still installed this fall. If not, then the equipment will be stored at the vendor, and our new playground installation will take place in the spring.
- We were approved for another Bottle Refill station through a city grant. It will replace the one by our main door. I did request a new Bottle Refill station in the gym; however, the cost was too high for this grant. New plumbing would need to be installed to make it possible to install a Bottle Refill station.
We still have one position to fill at Hoover. It's a great position for someone looking only to work 3 hours a day (12:00-3:00) supervising our cafeteria and recess. We have an amazing team who will support and train you. We would love for you or someone you know to join our Hoover team!
Best,
Mrs. Strusz

REMINDER: Turn Right When Exiting the Parking Lot at Drop-Off/Pick-Up Times
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring that our drop-off and pick-up process is moving quickly, efficiently and safely for our students and staff. We have recently had more cars trying to turn left when exiting our parent parking lot during our arrival and dismissal hours. This causes congestion in the traffic flow and slows down our process. WE NEED EVERYONE'S HELP:
- When exiting the parking lot during arrival/dismissal times, please ONLY TURN RIGHT. This is to keep the traffic flow moving smoothly and to keep staff directing traffic safely.
- THANK YOU for your help with this process to keep our students and staff safe!
We NEED 26 MORE!
Please Welcome our New Hoover Staff
Blake Hurtis, Special Education Para
Leanne Ziegeweid, Special Education Para
Odur Onyongo, Special Education Para
Deb Settambrino, Special Education Teacher
Hoover Elementary School is excited to announce the hiring of an additional Special Education Teacher, Deb Settambrino. Ms. Settambrino joins the Hoover Elementary School Special Education Team with previous experience. Ms. Settambrino started in the district as a para 20 years ago at Jackson Middle School. She went on to get her teaching license and master's degree, and has been teaching for 15 years. Deb has 5 children of her own and 13 grandkids. She loves camping and motorcycle riding.
With the changes within the teaching staff of the Special Education Department, there will be changes to special education caseloads, and special education schedules will likely be impacted as well, meaning the special education teacher(s) your child currently works with may change. The administration team, along with the special education teachers, are working together to make this transition as seamless as possible.
Families with students receiving special education services through special education resource programming at Hoover Elementary School through his/her Individualized Education Program (IEP) received a letter in their student's backpack on Friday, November 3rd with this information. Ms. Settambrino will be reaching out to families of students she will be supporting this week.
You can contact Lori Lavin, Special Education Lead Teacher at Hoover Elementary School, at lori.lavin@ahschools.us or 763-506-2860 if you have any day-to-day questions about your child's services.
November is Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month, celebrating the rich histories, traditions, heritages, and cultures of Native American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Indigenous communities.
The ancestral and contemporary lands, known today as Minnesota, are home to a vibrant Native American community and 11 Tribal Nations. The Tribal Nations include seven Anishinaabe (Chippewa, Ojibwe) reservations and four Dakota (Sioux) communities:
- Anishinaabe reservations: Grand Portage, Bois Forte, Red Lake, White Earth, Leech Lake, Fond du Lac, and Mille Lacs.
- Dakota communities: Shakopee Mdewakanton, Prairie Island, Lower Sioux, and Upper Sioux.
Hoover's Veterans Day Assembly
Veterans Day is this week. This year, we will have an All-School Assembly to learn about Veterans Day on Friday, November 10th. We would like to invite any family members who have served to attend our Veterans Day Assembly to be celebrated. If you or a family member are unable to attend, you can still complete and return the invite with the name(s) of those who served and still be recognized in our building. Invites were sent home last week (pink sheet).
We are also hosting a Veterans Day Poster Contest for students to enter. Students can draw an important Veteran in their life or create a poster about what Veterans Day means to them. Posters were due to school last Thursday, November 2nd. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 6th. Winners will have the opportunity to present their posters during our Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10th.
PTO Read-A-Thon Fundraiser
Hoover PTO has decided to hold a Read-A-Thon this year!
Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more. Plus this fundraiser will help our school library add more content.
Our Read-A-Thon will be from November 6 through November 28. Information will be sent home on Monday, October 31 with instructions on how to activate your reader’s personal page.
You may activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/tGGJjj/1 and following the simple instructions.
Please reach out to our PTO with questions at HooverPTO@ahschools.us or Kristin.Walker@ahschools.us, Media Specialist.
Message from the Nurse's Office
Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child in case there is an accident (bathroom, breakfast/lunch spill, etc.). The health office loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.
The health office has free at home Covid tests. Email Darlene.Anderson@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.
Wondering if your child is well enough to come to school? Click here for more information.
If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please request a doctor's note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.
Parent Educator, VSC, and PTO Updates
Parent Educator, Nichol Michaels - November's Parent Press - Your Child's Learning Style (NEW)
Volunteer Service Coordinator, Tina Fletcher - November Hoover VSC Newsletter (NEW)
- A message from our Volunteer Service Coordinator, Tina Fletcher:
- Are you hoping to chaperone a field trip for your child's class? Come in and help out in your child's classroom? Volunteer at fun events like dances, carnivals etc? All of these events are super fun to be a part of and volunteer at, but you need to have a Volunteer Application and CRHR completed in order to volunteer. Having these forms filled out right away at the beginning of the year makes you more likely to be selected for volunteer opportunities you are interested in such as field trips because you will get emails about these opportunities right away and your paperwork being processed won't delay you being selected.
- If you have any questions, please email Tina Fletcher at tina.fletcher@ahschools.us. To see current opportunities, click this link.
PTO - Hoover PTO would love to increase participation! ALL parents/guardians are welcome to join our PTO. Please check them out on the Hoover PTO Facebook page and like/follow them to learn more about what's going on! PTO also has a website with additional information. Please bookmark this site and check-in for updates.
Also, please like/follow our Hoover Elementary Facebook page too!
