FAC Weekly Update
January 26, 2024
Good Afternoon, FAC Family
Greetings from New York City!
I am currently travelling with a group of Juniors and Seniors from the FAC Dance, Theatre, and Voice studios. We are in New York City, enjoying the following experiences:
- Some students are taking part in the Unified Auditions, where they can audition for multiple top arts colleges over the course of the weekend
- We toured Juilliard and Fordham University yesterday, and will be stopping by a few more colleges today
- We did some sightseeing at the Freedom Tower, visited the 9/11 Memorial, and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts;
- Tomorrow, we will be receiving a backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall, visiting the Museum of Broadway, and attending professional performances
This is the first of what we hope to be an annual trip to the Unified Auditions!
Here's the latest from the halls of the FAC...
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
10 Secrets to Success - Part One - From Dr. John C. Maxwell
1. How you think is everything.
- Always be positive. Think “success,” not “failure.” Beware of a negative environment.
- “If you don’t want to get into positive thinking, that’s okay. Just eliminate all the negative thoughts from your mind, and whatever’s left will be fine.” –Bob Rotella, Sports Psychologist
- Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.
- “Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.” –Tom Hopkins
- Goals are nothing without action. Don’t be afraid to get started now. Just do it.
- Dreams don’t work unless you do
- “It is only our deeds that reveal who we are.” –Carl Jung
- “I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act; but I do believe in a fate that falls on them unless they act.” –G.K. Chesterton
4. Never stop learning.
- Get training and acquired skills.
- “A learning is defined as a change in behavior. You haven’t learned a thing until you can take action and use it.” –Don Shula and Ken Blanchard
There are two ways to learn:
2. Wisdom: learning from the mistakes of others
“A time comes when you need to stop waiting for the person you want to become and start being the
person you want to be.” –Bruce Springsteen
5. Be persistent and work hard.
- Success is a marathon, not a sprint.
- “If hard work is the key to success, most people would rather pick the lock.” –William Gladstone
- “‘I can’ is more important that I.Q.” –Clark Johnson

Congratulations AGAIN to Riley Fincher-Foster!

Riley is being recognized for her performance in the Andrew Lloyd Weber 75th Birthday Celebration at Greenville Theatre.
Summer Arts Intensives - Request for Financial Support
Each year, we have a number of current FAC students who choose to spend their summer months expanding their artistic horizons at a summer arts intensive program. These programs can be located locally or across the nation - for more information on recommended programs, please have your child speak with their FAC Instructor.
The FAC Partners will once again offer financial assistance to students in grades 9-11 who have been accepted into Summer Intensive Programs for their area of study at the FAC. Students who apply for financial assistance must be committed to attending the FAC next year. Recipients will be chosen first by financial need (as determined by P.I.P. status) and then by merit (Grade Point Average), with teacher input into the student's performance also being a factor. You will need to provide proof of acceptance into the program/camp (email or hard copy) along with the submission of the form. The form is due Thursday, March 14, 2024, and can be accessed at the following link - https://forms.gle/Mefnc3QDhz8M3TjF8
Please note - the form should be completed by the student via their GCS Google Account. Call or email us with any questions.
