Dr. Stewart's Community Update
June 2, 2023
Dear AWRSD students, staff and families,
Thank you for another positive and productive week of learning. This short school week has certainly been a full one!
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the senior class Night of Reflection on Academy Hill. The performances were outstanding and a great way to start the final weekend of senior activities. Tonight, many of our seniors will be recognized for a variety of achievements at Senior Awards Night. And, on Sunday, our seniors will be graduating. At this time, the rain looks as if it will hold off, so graduation will be outside on Alumni Field with a start time of 10 am. Dress warm…it may be chilly!
Last night J.R. Briggs held their Fine Arts Night and on Tuesday night, Westminster Elementary School held their Creation Celebration. We have so many talented young artists throughout the district. I was blown away by the work of the students in both schools and also by the sheer volume of great work displayed throughout the schools.
Many exciting events are happening at Overlook Middle School over the final weeks of school. On June 6th, current 5th grade parents will have an orientation night at OMS. The Overlook SOAR banquet will take place on June 7th. In the coming days, 5th graders from both Westminster Elementary and JR Briggs will attend “Step Up” days at Overlook to begin to prepare them for the transition from elementary to middle school. We continue to work to ensure that transitions between schools are as seamless and success as possible for our students.
I want to wish all of soon-to-be AWRSD graduates my sincere congratulations and best wishes for their next chapter. I continue to be inspired by our students and this year’s graduating class is full of talented, caring, hard-working young people poised to do good, to do well and be well in the world. We will be watching and cheering you all on in your next endeavors. And, my sincere thanks and congratulations to all of the family members, staff members and supporters who have been so instrumental in our soon-to-be graduates’ success throughout their lives and academic careers.
Thank you as always for your continued support and collaboration. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Stewart
