Superintendent Community Update
January 19, 2024
Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
I trust this message finds you well and that you had a productive four-day week.
As many of you know, JUHSD faces the challenge of being the lowest funded high school district in San Mateo County. Despite our continuous efforts, neighboring school districts receive millions more in funding for staff salaries, student programs, and essential resources. It is time for JUHSD to receive the funding it rightfully deserves.
Over the past few years, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to bring the Serramonte Del Rey Neighborhood Project (SDR) to fruition. This plan is not just a vision; it is a strategic initiative that will generate a consistent and sustainable flow of revenue, ensuring robust funding for our district for years to come.
The fate of the SDR plan rests on the upcoming decision by the Daly City Council, scheduled for Monday, January 22 at 7PM. We, the JUHSD community, need to unite and make our voices heard at this crucial meeting. I am reaching out to each and every one of you, urging your attendance and support!
Here's how you can help:
- Be Present: Join us at Daly City Hall, 333 90th Street, Daly City, at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 22. Arrive at 6:45 pm to receive a free SDR T-shirt and a sign to hold, showing your support.
- Make Some Noise: Wear your school gear proudly and be ready to stand, raise your hand, and make some noise when asked if you support the Serramonte Del Rey Neighborhood Project.
- Speak on Behalf of JUHSD: If you feel compelled, take the opportunity to speak on behalf of JUHSD. Introduce yourself by saying, "I am (your name) and I support the District’s Serramonte Del Rey project. Share your personal "WHYs!" (Ideas below)
- Raise money to FUND student programs!
- Raise money to RETAIN and ATTRACT great teachers!
- CREATE a walkable, bikeable, safe, family-friendly neighborhood with a shopping street, parks, accessible community garden, and nature trails.
- PROVIDE housing, including affordable housing units, for a community that desperately needs it!
In the meantime, please show your support by clicking here to send a quick letter to the Daly City Council.
Let's ensure that the Serramonte Del Rey Neighborhood Project becomes a reality, securing a brighter future for our students, staff, and community. Your commitment to JUHSD is our strength, and I believe that together, we can do this!
I extend my deepest gratitude for your support and dedication to JUHSD.
I hope to see you at Daly City Hall on Monday!
In Community,
Toni Presta

Therapy Dogs Visit District Wellness Team
On January 18, charming companions from the Peninsula Humane Society paid a delightful visit to the JUHSD Wellness Team at the Serramonte Del Rey Galleria. The engaging therapy dog presentation provided valuable insights into the advantages of pet-assisted therapy and its positive impact on well-being.
The Wellness Team embraced the opportunity to understand the myriad health benefits associated with this heartwarming practice.
