Hello Class of 2024 and families! Welcome to the WLHS College & Career Newsletter. As we start this year, many of you might be starting to think about what your next adventure will look like after graduation. We will be sending out College & Career Newsletters throughout the year with helpful information regarding the college admissions process, career spotlights and more!

We are currently in the process of scheduling college visits! Below you will see the schools that are already scheduled to visit in September and October. All visits will be during lunch in the Library Alcove. Upcoming college visits can be found in your Naviance Student account or on the Upcoming Events in Counseling Calendar!

If you are interested in attending a college visit, please register for the visit in your Naviance Student account. Some schools will cancel their visits if there are not any students who have registered.

Please note, most Common App schools require a counselor recommendation. If you are unsure if your school requires a counselor recommendation you can reach out to Ms. V (vermillk@wlwv.k12.or.us). It is best to reach out to your counselor letting them know you are applying via common app and include a completed Student Information Form to provide them with more personal information to help them write the best recommendation letter possible. Your counselor will not start your letter until you have provided them with a Student Information Form.

These counselor forms and recommendations are NOT optional, we cannot send your transcript without these additional forms and documents.

You do not need to make a letter of recommendation request on Naviance for a Common App Counselor Recommendation.

It is proper etiquette to reach out to your teacher and meet with them in person to ask them if they would be willing to write a letter or recommendation before submitting a request on Naviance. Once your teacher has agreed to write you a letter, you need to provide them with a completed Student Information Form and submit the official request on Naviance. Have questions about financial aid? The Financial Aid Resource Lab (FARL) can help! Schedule a free virtual appointment with our Financial Aid Resource Lab assistants, who can give you one-on-one help with the financial aid process. This service is open to current and future students as well as community members. If you have questions about how to pay for college, we have answers. Completing the FAFSA or ORSAA application is the first step in securing federal or state financial aid, including grants, work study and student loans.
