Hubbard Woods Update
October 10, 2022
Principal Update:
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
Friday was quite an exciting day (and night) for Hubbard Woods. The butterfly migration was moved indoors for our kindergarten students but we didn't let that ruin our fun. Thank you to kindergarten families for your flexibility and patience as we screened everyone to enter school.
What an amazing party on Friday night! Thank you to our PTO for planning such a wonderful event. Community makes us all stronger- and happier! It was especially wonderful to see so many of our new families jumping right into the fun.
This fall we have created an incredible partnership with the Potterfield family. They are HW alums and have created a flower lab and orchard on their property. Please click on the link below to learn a bit more about their mission backyardflowerlab.org. So far this season they have sent over 1400 pounds of produce to local food distribution sites and more than 700 bouquets from plants grown on their property. Our students have helped to support their efforts by picking fruit and clipping flowers as we are learning about seed dispersal, plant structure, etc. We look forward to deepening our connection in the coming seasons. We are fortunate to have this opportunity within walking distance from HW!
Shared learning opportunities for adults have historically been valued by our HW community. We would like to hear about your preferences and interests to help us in planning upcoming events and resources for our parents/caregivers. Please complete this survey to share your thoughts with us. The survey will close on Friday, October 14.
Please review the importance of bike safety with your children. We have seen an uptick in students not stopping at street corners, etc. On Mondays, we have an issue of Skokie students riding their bikes through the HW playground and it, unfortunately, times perfectly with our dismissal. If you have a child at Skokie please ask them to walk their bikes when on HW property.
We look forward to connecting with everyone on Thursday and Friday for our conferences. See you soon!
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody

Panorama SEL Survey
The Panorama Student SEL Survey will be administered in grades K-8 in the coming weeks, as part of our District-wide strategic plan goal to support SEL which is explained below:
Positive Culture & Well Being:
A culture of positive well-being amongst students, staff and community serves as a catalyst for continual growth. Relationships and understanding of others are prioritized to promote educational excellence, equity, and resilience. Understanding personal identities and self-awareness is used to facilitate better connections in an increasingly complex world.
The surveys will provide data to help inform our efforts to support the well-being of all students, teachers and staff.
Teachers in K-2 will complete the Teacher’s Perceptions of Student’s SEL for each of their students. Based on this year’s goals, the survey focuses on four areas: Grit, Self Management, Emotional Regulation, and Engagement.
Students in grades 3-8 will complete the two survey modules during their advisory/meeting time. We are administering this survey as part of our District-wide goal to support SEL for all students. Based on this year's goals, the survey focuses on seven areas: Emotional Regulation, Self Management, Grit, Sense of Belonging, Engagement, School Climate and School Safety.
All staff will take the Panorama Teacher and Staff Survey. The staff and teacher survey focuses on five areas: Wellbeing, Belonging, SEL Professional Learning, School Climate, and Efficacy.
