Fall 2021
Welcome Back!
The Long Beach School District held a number of homecoming events for students, faculty, and the community during the weekend of October 15th. The weekend consisted of a pep rally at the High School, a homecoming carnival open to the community, a football game, and a Wall of Fame Induction.
The annual pep rally was held at the high school's Alumni Field and featured a preview of halftime performances, games, and an introduction to fall sports teams, with a special acknowledgement to senior athletes. Alumni staff members even participated in the annual student/faculty wet sponge challenge. Money raised in the challenge was donated to the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation. The Student Organization ran games for students and staff, and our sports teams, and senior athletes in particular were introduced.
That evening, the Student Organization hosted a homecoming carnival, open to the community. Different clubs and organizations sold food, hosted games with prizes, and ran activities like face painting and tattoos, all in an effort to raise money for their individual clubs. Student work was also highlighted. Different than past years, the carnival was outside in the Middle School parking lot, and a ton of fun was had and much money raised!
Fans watched as Long Beach defeated Glen Cove with a score of 28-14. During halftime, the marching band, cheerleaders, and color guard took to the field to boost school spirit. The community's youth football players ran across the field and seniors' Alex Marsland and Brigitte Lew were crowned homecoming king and queen. The weekend culminated with a Wall of Fame Induction ceremony.

Class of 2001 20th Year Reunion
September 10th was a beautiful day and the Monarch butterflies had arrived in the west end on their annual migration. The Class of 2001 celebrated 20 years since graduating from Long Beach High School with a reunion at Jetty in the west end of Long Beach.
Jetty provided food, drink, and a place to gather. Mr. Kennedy set- up his iconic wave, which brought smiles, photo-ops, and reminiscence to many.
The last time many of us had seen each other was that June day in 2001 dressed up in our Graduation Robes. A time before Covid-19, a time before Hurricane Sandy, a time when the Twin Towers still stood tall.
Over the years we have lost two classmates: Michael Connolly and Chris Keenom. The time has passed and maybe we lost touch, people have moved away, started families, or maybe we failed to launch. The reunion provided a moment to reconnect, check-in and reflect on the person you were in 2001 and the person you are now in 2021… as George Eliot said, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” - Alyson Paz
