Staff Member Update

Last Monday, one of our special education associates, was severely injured in a car accident on I-80/35. Our staff here at Valerius are deeply saddened by this event. Morgan Carroll has been with us since February of 2020. In addition to her work, she is a graduate student at Drake University, and a proud dog mom. Morgan is still in critical condition in the hospital, but her family and doctor's have hope that will continue to heal. On Friday, she was able to move a finger, a toe, and open her eye. This was HUGE! We will continue to stay in touch with Morgan's family to best support her needs as she begins her journey to recovery. If there is ever a need the Valerius family can provide, I will be sure to let people know. Everyone is looking for a way to help. Her family has shared that "prayers and loving and healing thoughts are welcome! 🙏🏼❤️" and that Morgan can accept cards and pictures. Thank you for all of your loving care and concern for Morgan. The Valerius community is truly the very best!

Virtual Fun Run October 23-25 - Time to go for a walk or run with your family and take a photo!

T-Shirts, including any adult shirt orders, will come home with students on Thursday/Friday.
Send a photo of your walk to valeriuspto@gmail.com to be entered into a drawing for prizes! (Please include your name, photos will be included in an event slideshow for the school.)

Each student that raises $20 or more gets a special prize.

FLU SHOTS

With the unpredictability of COVID-19 circulating at the same time as the flu, it is recommended to get a flu shot in order to decrease the possible negative impacts on your respiratory system. The flu vaccine not only reduces your risk of illness from influenza but can prevent hospitalizations and deaths.

UCSD will not be partnering with Polk County Health this year to have a flu shot clinic. You may contact your health care provider for the vaccine or visit one of the many area pharmacies offering flu shots.
