WE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES!
Viking Family,
One of my all-time favorite movies is Rudy. I love everything about it- from the underdog coming out on top to the humbling of a tough coach who has no choice but to recognize the power of his players’ love and respect for a teammate. There are few movies I have memorized, but Rudy is definitely one of them.
One of my favorite quotes is from the coach just before the game. He says, “You all know what you have to do. Remember no one, and I mean no one, comes into our house and pushes us around. This is your game now, gentlemen, and for you seniors, it’s the last one, so make it count. Because you’ll remember it for the rest of your lives. Let’s get ‘em!”
We had a great first semester, and going into our second semester, this should be our mentality.
Yes, we get to start over again and make more memories, but at this point, You all know what you have to do. Grades, expectations from teachers, dress code, attendance, all the things - we know what we have to do.
Taking care of business also means taking care of each other. That means No one, and I mean no one, comes into our house and pushes us around. In the new year, let’s be sure we have each other’s backs and look out for each other. Kindness counts, y’all! Always! When things are not right, find someone who can help make them right. Choose your friends wisely, and surround yourself with people who will always be there for you.
This is your game now…this is the time to start anew and make it all count. This is the time to make things right - grades, friendships, your extracurricular endeavors. Give it all you’ve got, Vikes!
After the coach's rousing speech, the players jump up and get ready to take the field. Just before they go out, one of the captains asks Rudy if he’s ready. He looks up and says, “I’ve been ready for this my whole life.” Even though it’s the end of the first semester, and I’m tired, I’m already excited for January 8th! See you in the New Year!
