February is Random Acts of Kindness Month
Random Acts of Kindness Week is celebrated from February 13th to February 20th. During this week, we encourage all of our students to spread kindness and become a positive influence in each other's lives. Even one small act of kindness can mean a great deal to somebody.
Use the calendar below to complete a random act of kindness.
National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week
National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. It provides an opportunity to bring together scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners to help advance the science, so that we can improve the prevention and awareness of substance misuse in our own communities and nationwide. So during the week of March 20th-27th, learn more facts about substances and how to prevent others from using substances. Below are some interesting facts about drugs and alcohol.
Did you know?
- It takes 6 minutes for the brain to start to react to alcohol.
- 59.2 million or 21.4% of people 12 years old and older have used illegal drugs or misused prescription drugs within the last year.
- Worldwide, 3 million deaths every year result from harmful use of alcohol. This represents 5.3% of all deaths.
- 57.2 million people use tobacco or nicotine products such as vapes.
- Milkshakes used to originally contain alcohol.
- 70% of users who try an illegal drug before age 13 develop a substance abuse disorder within the next 7 years compared to 27% of those who try an illegal drug after age 17.
- 48% of people worldwide, over the age of 15, claim that they have never drunk alcohol before.

Student Programs:
- Alumni in Recovery: On February 12th, the 11th grade class viewed the Alumni in Recovery presentation that focused on educating individuals about addiction, the dangers of using substances and where to receive assistance.
March:
- New Jersey Manufactures Insurance Company: On March 11th and March 18th, the 10th grade Driver's Education classes will view a classroom presentation done by a retired State Trooper in which he educates students about the dangers of being distracted while on the road. Students will also gain knowledge and tips about how to be safe while driving.
- After the Fire: On March 18th, all 12th grade students will view the After the Fire presentation done by Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos. Students will learn about Shawn and Alvaro's experience while at Seton Hall University as well as learn information related to fire safety.
Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB)
What is the definition of HIB?
HIB means any gesture, any written, verbal or physical act, or any electronic communication, whether it be a single incident or a series of incidents, that is reasonably perceived as being motivated either by an actual or perceived characteristic, such as:
- Race
- color
- Religion
- Ancestry
- National origin
- Gender
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity and expression
- Mental, physical or sensory disability
- Any other distinguishing characteristic
*Electronic communication is defined by the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights as communication transmitted by means of an electronic device, including, but not limited to, a telephone, cellular phone, computer, or pager. This could mean through email, instant messaging in a chat room, on a website or gaming site, or through digital messages or images sent to a cellular phone.
