WCS September 2023 District News
September 2023
The 2023-24 school year is under way! Thank you for your patience in the first few weeks as students, drivers, teachers, and families adjust.
We hope you'll take a few minutes to catch up on news from around the District.
Board Corner
Check out our recent Board Corner Report (doc) for a quick summary of recent BOE Regular Meetings. The next regular meeting of the Board is September 25, 2023 at 6:00 PM and will be held at Holmes Elementary.
Celebrating Hurricane Pride and Leadership!
At the August 28, 2023 Board meeting, the High School recognized their Varsity Cheerleaders. Mrs. Woodruff shared a recent referee referral about the cheer squad. “What a great way to start off the year! We were greeted by name. The cheerleaders all came over and thanked us for being there. For me, what meant the most was EVERY game I found out they invite a Veteran as an honorary captain. Being a 33-year Navy man and having a Navy Vet there was cool. First class all the way.” Cheerleaders recognized were Katie Bayless, Gracie Gerard, Lyla Kirk, Lucy Kramer, Kensy Parker, Alexa Rich, Addy Smith, Bryn Tippett, and Makenna Tolliver. Cheer Advisor is Jessica Armstrong.
What a great way to demostrate Hurricane Pride and leadership!

Did you know...?
Many of us probably remember getting our textbooks at the beginning of each school year when we were kids. The goal was to get the nicest one that wasn't too ragged!
Did you know that most curriculum/resources are now sold with software licenses? Many times we now have to keep purchasing access to the curriculum/resources or lose access to them. We can no longer just "keep the old textbooks a little longer" to save money.
Did you know...?
Many people aren't aware that public schools are required by Ohio law to transport resident students not just to the District schools, but to area private and charter schools as well. We currently transport students to a number of other schools with no control over the schedule.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Check our September 2023 Events (doc) and grab your calendar! Please remember to double check the building calendars on the website before heading out in case there are updates.
Looking ahead...
Homecoming Week is the first week in October!
