Tēnā tātou e te whānau o Kaikōura Suburban School,
This term we have been really taking hold of our motto: "Kia eke eke taumata - Climbing to new heights." Our collective and individual drive to take up the challenge of climbing the learning mountain of life has shifted to another epic level. With Toroa making great strides as Kaitiaki of the land, they headed to the Boyd farm to tend to the newly planted natives. Learning about the regeneration of wetland areas and what this means for the future of the whenua/the land. Lead by Jodie Hoggard with Landcare trust. The Toroa tamariki were also amazing representatives of the Fyffe FORCE at the National Young Leaders Day, held at the Christchurch Town Hall last Thursday. Thank you/Ngā mihi to our parent helpers for both events. We couldn't make these things happen without you.
Pīwakawaka have fulfilled their collective entrepreneur goal of making profit from their produce and nature products by putting this profit towards purchasing native and exotic plants for our school. Pīwakawaka have set the course, aligned with Matariki to continue the beautification of our gorgeous school. Beginning with the planting of the mounds around the back of the school, surrounding the bike track. This is an area we wish to continue to plant which will increase the vibrance and ecology at our school and add to the adventures on the bike track. We hope to have another planting day soon.
We are looking for donations of native species like flax, cabbage trees, grasses and native trees for this planting.
Tītī are making some decisions about where to spend the profit they made from the market. As a class they are exploring the leaves of green project that is an ongoing project to beautify the school. The recent addition of the tiger turf at the front of the school is a part of this project. In doing so Tītī have some proposals and plans to improve the playground, tiger turf the area where our bell is and get more plantings and areas for our picnic tables set up. Kia eke eke taumata Tītī.
Thank you to everyone who has come forward to support Whale Run. We are in full swing with planning, stocktaking the equipment, going through the emails and registrations from the past six months. There are a few jobs needing support, these will be listed further on in the newsletter.
In the meantime we would love your support to advertise the Whale Run. You can do this by liking and sharing the Whale Run face book page and the soon to be refreshed instagram page.
