Dear Fulton Families,
As a reminder, we WILL NOT be holding Halloween activities during the school day as a part of our culture at FES. Please remind students that they cannot wear costumes during the school day. Thank you for supporting our efforts!
Warmly,
Dr. Burks, Mrs. Sillers, & Mrs. Brickner

Please take the time to fill out this google form as a family! This will help us ensure that the holidays, celebrations, and traditions you hold dear can be lifted up throughout the school year!
Happy almost November! In the month of November, we will be celebrating Native American Heritage Month! Here are some resources for you and your family to explore!
Do you celebrate Native American heritage? Tell us how here!
Did you know Native American Heritage Month is a recognition of the significant contributions of Native peoples past and present and the influence they have had on the advancement of the United States. In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under variants on the name (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”) have been issued each year since 1994.
#Socktober
A huge shout-out to Ms. Jillian O'Brien, 5th grade teacher. Every year Ms. O'Brien leads these efforts, every day in October she shows off a different pair of socks to get the students excited. This is such a great cause and we couldn't do this without Ms. O'Brien. Thank you Ms. O'Brien!

Veteran’s Day @ FES
Inclement Weather Asynchronous School Days
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) now allows local school systems to repurpose inclement weather days as asynchronous school days. At the discretion of the superintendent, HCPSS will use up to three inclement weather asynchronous days during the 2022-2023 school year. One of two additional codes will be instituted to reflect the decision to transition to an asynchronous instruction day
- Code Purple Asynchronous Student Day - School buildings and Office buildings open for staff only
Code Pink Asynchronous Student Day - School buildings and Office buildings closed
For each asynchronous inclement weather day, students should:
- Access the inclement weather asynchronous task options chart via the HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan website or the hard copy that was sent home to families upon request. K-5 students should complete one task per curriculum area:
- 1 Math
- 1 ELA
- 1 Content (either Science, Social Studies, or Health)
- 1 Related Arts task for that color day
3. Submit the printed chart or the completed tasks list on separate paper to their teacher at the end of the month to get marked as present for the asynchronous day attendance. NOTE: For asynchronous days occurring less than nine days before the end of the month, task completion lists will be collected at the end of the next month. Attendance for asynchronous days will be updated monthly.
For more information, please visit the HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan.
Join us in creating our Fulton Values
Last week during our PTA meeting we engaged families around Values. Ms. Shannon Keeny, Facilitator Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Mrs. Caitlyn Gudenius, FES Teacher and Diversity Inclusion Equity Liaison co-presented on our efforts this year.
Values are deeply held views of what we find worthwhile. These are associated with that which we appreciate, respect, or cherish. They come from many sources: parents, religion, schools, peers, people we admire, customs, and traditions. ~Campbell Jones, Campbell Jones, Lindsey
Some examples of values may include, but not limited to, achievement, adventure, balance, challenge, community, creativity, fairness, growth, happiness, kindness, learning, peace, resilience, service.
This year, as a Fulton Community, we are working on defining our values. We are gathering input from staff, students and families; and we would love to hear from you. Use this form to share your top 3 values as it relates to the educational experience and our school community.
Thank you for helping us to define our Values here at FES.

Did you know Diwali is known as the “Festival of Lights” and is a Hindu holiday widely celebrated in India and across the Hindu Diaspora. The word Diwali derives from Sanskrit and means “a row of lights.” Festivities include the illumination of lights, candles, firecrackers, and diyas (clay lamps) to symbolize the victory of good over evil, inner light over spiritual darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is a time for gathering with loved ones, celebrating life, and committing to making the right decisions in life!
Did you know LGBT History Month is an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history, and the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements. It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson. LGBT History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
