Valley High School Update
Demonstrating the Valley Standard in the 4 A's
August 25th, 2023
Greetings Valley students and families,
It is so great to have students and staff back in the building! The first three days have been absolutely phenomenal starting the 2023-2024 school year!! We will do our best to provide engaging instruction in a safe learning environment as well as provide opportunties for greater connection through our Arts, Activities and Athletics.
A few changes this year to note are we have increased our passing period from five to eight minutes, expecting our sophomores and juniors to be in school the entire school day, and focusing on being a Trauma-Sensitive school. Following COVID-19, we have seen unprecedented levels of anxiety, depression and stress in our students. Our kids enter our learning spaces carrying these mental health realities with them, and as a school, we are focusing on how to identify when a student is under stress and helping support them in order to help them better engage in the learning.
This is going to be another fantastic year, and I am honored and privileged to serve as your principal at the greatest high school in Iowa!
Mr. Maxwell
