HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
CROSS COUNTRY
The boys won the Atlantic County championship yesterday with Ryan Taylor winning the race. The girls came in a close second to Mainland.
GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER
The Lady Eagles celebrated senior night last Thursday with a victory over the visiting Hammonton Blue Devils. Senior captain, Maddie Eye opened the scoring for EHT shortly into the second half and freshman Brielle VonColln put the game away with a smooth move around the goal keeper in the closing minutes to put the exclamation point on a 2-0 win. This was the third shutout in a row from Sophomore goalie Abby Lyon behind another strong performance by defenders junior captain Angelina Horin, sophomores Ava Kraybill and Aniyah Parker, and senior Lona Dillhoff. Congratulations to the class of 2023: Maddie Eye, Lona Dillhoff, Jailynn Mulhern, Kim Calix, and Riley Ammann.
The Lady Eagles followed up the excitement of senior night with a hard fought, double overtime draw with Lenape on Monday. VonColln scored in the 25th minute of the first half after a quick buildup by the midfield play of Mulhern, freshman Ava Ferrara, and senior captain Gabriela Piantadosi. The team weathered much of the Lenape attack until they scored off of a corner kick late in the second half. After a Lenape player was sent off for a second yellow card, EHT had the advantage but couldn't find the back of the net in OT. EHT closes out the season with trips to Vineland and Atlantic Christian and a game at home versus Highlands before beginning their playoff run.
VARSITY FIELD HOCKEY
Lady Eagles Field Hockey is now 9-4-3 overall for the season. We play today at Middle Township and are looking for double digit wins on the season. We battled a tough Shawnee squad to a 3-3 tie on Saturday. Brianne Macchia led the way with a goal and 2 assists. Jenna Gray had a goal and an assist. Julia Zappile had a goal.
GIRLS TENNIS
Girls tennis opened the week with a 5-0 over OLMA on Monday. Jamie Theophall, Lauren Theophall, and Lilly Munoz all won their singles matches. Doubles Demi Lu/Belina Zhang and Elisa Liberi/Lilly Ferriola also won in straight sets.
Vineland came to town prepared to rumble on Wednesday. Jamie Theophall won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Lauren Theophall came up short 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a marathon match at 2nd singles. Lilly Munoz outlasted her 3rd singles opponent 7-5, 6-1. It was a tough day for our doubles teams with Vineland taking both doubles matches. Final score Vineland 3, EHT 2.
Senior Day was celebrated Thursday before the match with Absegami. Seniors Jamie Theophall, Lauren Theophall, Lilly Munoz, Elisa Liberi, Rebecka Belletini, Natasha Wagner, Zoey Chen, Maggie Chen, Emma Liang, and Macy Jiang were honored for their contributions to the team. Rebecka and Natasha made their varsity debuts with a 6-0, 6-4 win at 2nd doubles.
Season record 15-5. South Jersey Coaches Tournament coming up this weekend.
GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL
The girls volleyball team had a busy week!
On Monday, we traveled to Absegami. After a tight match, the Eagles lost 0-2 (20-25, 24-26). Tuesday brought our final home game to the gym against CAL leader, Mainland. The Eagles battled to a 3 set match, but fell 1-2 (26-24, 17-25, 21-25). Wednesday the team traveled to Oakcrest, to play in the first round of the CAL tournament. This was the first time our program has made it to the CAL playoffs, and we were super excited! The team fought tough, but lost to Oakcrest in 3 game 1-2 (25-18, 25-23, 20-25). We now have a small break before an out of conference away game vs Kingsway on Monday, and then the State Tournament next Saturday.
VARSITY FOOTBALL
In the Eagles final regular game of the season, they beat Vineland High School 35-21. Christian Rando threw four touchdown passes, three passes went to Je-Nelly Reyes and one pass went to D.J. Germann. Christian also had one rushing touchdown. Joey Martin added successful extra point tries.
BOYS JV SOCCER
BOYS VARSITY SOCCER
10/21/22
The Eagles hosted rival St. Augustine Prep on Thursday in the CAL Conference Semi-Final game. The Eagles were seeded #1, while the Prep was seeded #5. EHTHS was on the scoreboard early when Senior Captain, Nathan Biersbach, found the back of the net with a right-footed ripper. St. Augustine would battle back and tie the game before halftime. The Eagles regrouped at halftime and came out with urgency and remained relentless throughout the entire second half. The Eagles had several chances in the second half. Senior Gilmer Mendoza had a potential game winner saved off the fingertips of the Prep goalie. Senior Jude Urban was looking for redemption late in the game with a breakaway run to goal, however, unable to slip the ball past the goalie. After 80 minutes, the game remained tied and entered overtime. Again, the Eagles had a couple brilliant opportunities to win the game, yet double overtime would prove not enough time to crown a winner. A penalty shootout would declare a winner. Ironically, the Shootout went to a second round before the Prep prevailed. Devastated and fatigued, the Eagles gave it their all. EHTHS will no doubt bounce back next week in the first round of the NJSIAA Group IV South Jersey playoffs. The Eagles will have a first round home game, however, their opponent is to be determined.
