Admin Update
Our staff has so enjoyed this first month of school with your students, they are a phenomenal class. We are all adjusting to the block schedule and I feel it has been a great shift at THS. Schedule changes have concluded and we have all started to settle into this semester's routine. Fall sports and activities are in full swing and competitions began this week. I am proud of the freshman involvement and as a school we have had over 200 students turn in physicals to get involved. We can't wait to see you at events, soon. Club meetings will begin next week, please encourage your student to consider joining!
Our technology department has been hard at work getting devices to students. Every student who has the OLR and parent acknowledgements completed in Infinite Campus has been issued a computer. If you have questions or concerns about your student's technology, you can contact Mr. Duenas directly at duenasc@turnerusd202.org or calling the front office and requesting a transfer to technology.
We are excited to settle into September and continue getting to know the Class of 2027! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to support your family, my contact information is below.

Students of the Week
Hannah Rabun
Hannah, you are such a delight to have in class! You crack me up with your sass and your smile makes me smile. I can't wait to see all you will accomplish over the next four years and beyond. Thank you for being here and thank you for being you!
Marisol Gonzalez
Gavin Taylor
I have a lot of students in class so my room can be crowded, and every day Gavin pushes in not only his chair but other students' chairs so that kids can move in and out of the room. I have never had to ask him to do this, and now other students also follow his lead. I am so glad to have him in class!
Teacher Feature
Mr. Fessler
Teaches: Biology and Advanced BiologyOther Roles: Head Boys Soccer Coach and JV Girls Soccer Coach
Outside of School Activities: In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife and our two mutts. I also enjoy traveling, cooking and trying new cuisines, drawing and painting, and urban and landscape photography.
Favorite Aspect of Teaching Freshmen: One of the main things I thoroughly enjoy about teaching freshman is that they are full of energy and keep me relevant. Freshmen also challenge me to be the best support that I can be to better their lives.
Limelight Lesson
Ms. Johnson's Class Studies Vocabulary
After working on independent reading endurance, Ms. Johnson's students transitioned to some intensive vocabulary study. Students had the choice of using hard copy or digital tools to engage with identified words from the text they will be using this unit as part of our new English curriculum. Students around the room were working through the task in ways that fit their individual strengths, whether that be artistic, tech-inclined, or creative. It was amazing to see the natural collaboration at tables and to see the talents our students were bringing to the assignment!
MAP Matters - Testing Begins this Month
Students will begin MAP testing the week of September 11. The MAP test is completed on student laptops with the goal of looking at growth. This will be the first of three windows in which we test - fall, winter, and spring. Students should be familiar with the assessment as they have been participating in it throughout their time at Turner with ninth grade being the final assessed year.
Why?
At THS, we use MAP data for several things. We use it as a tool to evaluate student learning and the effectiveness of our curriculum, especially given the adoption of a new math curriculum last year and a new English curriculum for this year. We also use MAP scores to determine course placement for next year's student schedules.
Counseling Corner
Communication: Maintaining quality in most aspects of life requires communication. It can be beneficial for students to learn how to effectively communicate with the various individuals in their lives while also being able to balance their own needs, dignity and self-worth.
Boundaries: Especially boundaries with time, are important. Boundaries can be thought of as stop signs in a person's life. Where you place your stop signs and what you consider crossing the line varies based on your beliefs, values, cultural customs, and family traditions. Setting limits can provide balance in a person's life. When you set boundaries, you're communicating to others how you want and expect to be treated.
Engage with Your Support System: Engaging with your support system can be helpful for stress management and engaging in healthy coping strategies.
Invest Time in a Hobby or Coping Strategy: Although time can feel like a limited resource when students are managing school and other life responsibilities, investing time in a hobby or coping strategy can assist in increased wellness and stress reduction.

THS Tardy Policy
5 tardies- one day of In School Suspension
8 tardies- one day of Out of School Suspension
11 tardies- student will remain in In School Suspension until a parent and administrator can meet to discuss attendance
During class meetings the first week of school, administrators reviewed the importance of being in class and the details of the policy with students. Freshmen were also advised that if they are on campus by 7:00, the car line will not inhibit their ability to make it into the building on time. We also reminded students that they can sign up for district transportation and will never be late to school.
You will always be contacted at the information provided to us in Infinite Campus if your student is receiving a consequence based on the THS tardy policy.
