CVSD PROPOSED BUDGET
At the February 20, 2024, school board meeting, the board voted to adopt the finance committee’s recommendation to move forward with the originally warned budget that they spent more than six months reviewing and evaluating.
We've updated the Budget page of the district's website to reflect this decision and to provide information to help voters learn more about the proposed 2024-2025 budget. Please see the items below on that page, along with additional resources.
- At the meeting, CVSD Board vice chair and finance committee chair Meghan Metzler read this statement to begin the discussion.
- After the meeting, Superintendent Sanchez shared this letter.
- Here are some budget highlights in a Frequently Asked Questions format to help our community understand important elements of the proposed budget.
- On Wednesday, February 21, the district's administration and school board hosted a virtual Budget Town Hall. These slides were shared at that event.
- Here is the recording from the Budget Town Hall
Please contact any of the CVSD School Board members with questions. Send an email to cvsdschoolboard@cvsdvt.org or use the School Board or Budget topics on Let’s Talk, found on the district’s website. https://www.cvsdvt.org/

JASON CHIN VISITS HCS
HCS welcomed the author/illustrator Jason Chin on Friday! Jason spoke to students about how he became a book author and illustrator - he was inspired by a visiting illustrator to his elementary school when he was a student! He also explained how he uses curiosity and research to ask questions, make connections, and create the works of art that are his picture books, and told amazing stories about his travels around the world. He expressed that a goal of his is to illustrate the characters in his books in such a way that all readers can see themselves in the pages. Huge thanks to our school district for supporting this visit, and for the many helping hands that went into making it happen for our students!
🏃♀️ GIRLS ON THE RUN - GRADES 3-5 🏃♀️
Dear Girls on the Run caregivers,
Do you remember how hard it sometimes was to be your authentic self as a kid? Today, girls are facing the same challenges, but in a much more magnified way because of social media, increased societal pressures, and unrealistic beauty standards. Girls on the Run helps girls build unshakable confidence and resilience. Throughout the season, caring coaches remind participants that it’s okay to make mistakes, to keep trying, and to embrace the journey. Your girl deserves this!
Our 10 week program is for students in grades 3-5. Our season begins the week of March 18. Our team will meet on Tuesday and Friday from 2:55 to 4:30 at HCS. The season will culminate with our team crossing the finish line at GOTRVT’s 5k Celebration!
The registration fee is $130. GOTRVT provides financial assistance directly on the registration form as well as a payment plan. GOTRVT is committed to being accessible to any student who wants to participate, and is dedicated to ensuring that program cost is not a barrier. Please contact GOTRVT directly at 802-871-5664 regarding financial assistance options.

HCS SAFETY COMMITTEE
Our safety committee consists of a diverse membership involving key staff representation, including staff who have specialized roles or more flexible availability in the event of a crisis. Our Mission is to continuously improve the knowledge, skills, and preparedness related to personal and institutional safety. We maintain a regular monthly meeting time to keep the important work moving forward, review feedback from recent emergency drills, study possible emergency scenarios, and tighten relationships with first-responder partners in the community. We access expert consultation from a safety consultant contracted by the VT Agency of Education. We are so grateful for our community partners.
There is, however, one key player missing on our team currently; a Hinesburg community member. This role will include attending regular monthly meetings and providing a community perspective during committee discussions. If you are interested, please complete this three question form .
In terms of school safety, we will never be “done” improving our habits, routines, and procedures in order to help us be prepared and stay safe in different types of emergencies. On behalf of the Safety Committee, I thank you for your partnership in this work.
