Counselors' Corner
Families of students in the Class of 2023 (current juniors) are invited to schedule a meeting with Mrs. Campman, counselor for grades 11 & 12, to discuss your student's future plans as we prepare for their senior year. During these meetings, we will review your student's transcript and what credits they still need to earn and complete in order to meet the LTHS graduation requirements. We will also discuss different scheduling options for their senior year so they are best prepared to choose their coursework when scheduling begins later this spring. It's a great opportunity to answer any lingering questions juniors may have as they prepare for their senior year, too.
Please email Mrs. Campman at: vcampman@loyalsocklancers.org if you would like to schedule a time to meet.

High school robotics team takes 3rd in competition, advances to states.
The high school VEX Robotics team competed at two regional events throughout the month of February. The team, consisting of four Loyalsock students, Austin Schwarzer (Junior), Ian Allen (Junior), Jessica Frear (Sophomore), and James Neely (8th grade) competed at Spring-Ford High School and Norristown High School, both of which are in the greater Philadelphia area.
The first competition, which was held at Spring-Ford High School on February 12th, consisted of sixty-four teams in two divisions. With Austin as the primary driver, the team went on to place second in the qualifying rounds, winning six out of seven matches. In the finals bracket, the Loyalsock team won the first three competitions, to place third overall in the competition. This third place capture qualified the team for the state competition which is held in March.
The second competition, which was held in Norristown on February 19th, consisted of almost 90 teams again in two divisions. As the Loyalsock team had already qualified for states, the team experimented with different tactics and equipment, with Ian and James acting as the primary drivers. James also provided an autonomous code (which they did not have at Spring-Ford) which helped them to capture four out of six events, and an overall seventh place finish for the day.
The team will travel to Norristown again on March 5 for the Eastern State Championships. The top teams in this event will have the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas in April, where they will face off against almost one thousand teams from 43 different countries worldwide.
The competition includes designing and constructing of robotic devices to accomplish specific goals, programming the robot to act both autonomously as well as under manual control, communicating and coordinating with teams from other schools or areas, strategy and public presentation. The Loyalsock team is one of only two teams from the north central PA area, with Sayre being the other team. Most of the teams originate from the south eastern region / greater Philadelphia area.
