Updates from P.E. - May 22 - 26

In PE, we just finished an exciting unit that starred the ropes and rock wall! Our K-2 students also learned a catchy song about their muscles so we could talk about our upper body muscles that we use when we climb! Ask your child to teach you about the 4 different “clubs” you could get into when participating at the rope station!

We are finishing our year off with the Bike Safety Unit in 3-5 PE. K-2 students will be engaging in some of our favorite PE group games. This week we played a game called, “Hide Out!” Next up: Oscar’s Garbage Can!

Attendance Matters

With the start of the second semester, it is a good time to reflect on our school routines. We have noticed a significant increase in students arriving late to school over the last several months, and our school leadership team has taken this on as an opportunity for growth.

We strongly encourage families to consider their morning routines and ensure that students are arriving at school with enough time to get breakfast, stop at lockers, and be ready to learn prior to the bell ringing. The bell rings to begin class at 7:45 AM; therefore, we suggest students arrive as close to 7:35 AM.

Getting to school early has two key benefits

  1. Students have time to go to their lockers, get breakfast, and chat with friends before the official start of the day.

  2. Students can start their day in a morning meeting which involves a class greeting and a game. We also start our day with important morning announcements (birthdays, class gilly winners, special events) that students look forward to.

When they arrive late, even a few minutes, they walk into a class that has already started and have to join a morning meeting and quickly “catch up.” For many students being late to arrive can feel awkward and anxiety producing. While our teachers do a wonderful job welcoming students into the circle, students often verbalize that they don’t like being late.

We know how hard it is to get our kids ready and out the door. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your child. We are here for you.

We appreciate your partnership. Thank you so much - Erin
