National English Honor Society Request
NEHS is planning an Elementary School Reading Fair for local kids. Our members are organizing crafts and activities to inspire a love of reading. One thing we're planning, in addition, is a book drive. We reached out to local elementary schools and have a list of requests from some teachers, but we're also hoping to run a "free store" for the kids at the Reading Fair to be able to take home a book with them.
We put together a signup genius to ask parents, community members, etc. if they'd like to donate a specific book or a new/gently used children's book of their choice. We were hoping you might be able to include it in your newsletter, please?

A Message from Guidance
It's time for Junior Interviews!
Guidance Counselors are beginning to meet individually with students in the Class of 2023 to discuss their post-secondary plans and steps to be taken between this spring and next fall. Juniors should schedule their appointment using the link for their assigned counselor in the Class of 2023 Google Classroom.
In order to have your individual meeting you must:
- Have your junior questionnaire completed
- Select a time slot to meet with your assigned counselor ** we encourage you to book your appointment during your free period, if you do not have one, utilize an elective class, if you do not have an elective, please make sure you discuss with your classroom teacher prior to scheduling about missing class time. Links to Appointment Slots can be found under the Classwork tab in the Class of 2023 Google Classroom**

Opportunity for KPHS Students--
Massachusetts American Legion Girls and Boys State program.
Every June for the past 75 years the American Legion has brought some of the best, brightest, and most highly motivated rising high school seniors together to engage in civic education, understanding, and action. Our program seeks to provide standout young people the opportunity to engage in thoughtful classroom discourse, campaigning for offices modeled after our own commonwealth’s structure, and college level electives in government, economics, and law.
This year’s program will run from June 13th-19th and will be located at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. Students have the added benefit of acclimating to a college campus with regards to meals, dorms, and facilities. We have attached our program overview flyer to this email for your perusal, which includes an outline of a typical day on campus. Afternoon sports are offered with Flag Football, Soccer, Basketball, and Softball being the favorites. Also offered are ultimate frisbee, track and field, and tennis. We have a joint Girls & Boys State Band/Orchestra that plays during evening events as well as a Co-Ed Choir.
If you know of a student who would be interested in our program there are a few options to apply. One is to direct them to our website: https://www.maboysstate.org/ or https://www.massgirlsstate.org/ and complete the Program Interest Form on the banner at the top of the page. Another is to contact your local district chairman, which you can find under the Resources tab on the website. Finally, an email can be made to Mark Avis, the Chairman of Boys State, at avis14@comcast.net or Andrea Pelletier, the Director of Massachusetts Girls State at Director.massgirlsstate@gmail.com. This program is offered at no cost to the individual but is restricted to young adults under the age of 18 who are in-between their junior and senior years of high school.
If you have any questions regarding the program please let me know! As a former alumni of the program, I am happy to offer any additional information.
Thank You for Your Time,
Jess Kirchner
