Week of December 18, 2023
Nighthawk Families,
We hope you will assist in supporting our Student Athletes in their fundraiser. As a new school, our school fund as well as our parent organizations supporting our school do not have the same funds as existing schools. All of this is needed to #buildournest. Details below.
We are raffling off 6 Athletic Booster Passes that are good for the 23-24 school year to gain free entrance into any Herbert Akins Road sporting event. https://forms.gle/UnRx1YorNLU2aMAs9
If you are interested in entering the raffle, please complete this form by Monday, December 18th.
Students on Tracks 2, 3, and 4 have a four day week this week as we wrap up the second quarter and first semester. There will be no school on Friday, December 22nd.
Students on Tracks 1, 2, and 3 will return for the 3rd quarter/2nd semester on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
As a reminder grades reflect what students have learned and in middle school it will show whether or not a student passed or failed a semester; not the overall letter grade. Please ensure your student has completed their work so teachers have the opportunity to grade them aligned to the standards. Thank you for your partnership!
Please take time to disconnect from school over the holidays and connect with those that are important to you. This will be the last Nighthawk News of 2023. Stay tuned for the first 2024 Nighthawk News to be shared on January 1, 2024!
With appreciation for your support and partnership as we continue to #buildournest in Year 2,
Anne Marie Adkins
Principal

Gratitude
Dear Families,
During this time of year, our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Gratitude. Gratitude means you are aware of and thankful for good things that happen.
Gratitude is the quality of feelings and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship-strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”
Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism. And, the great thing about gratitude is that it can be intentionally cultivated. Numerous studies have concluded that gratitude is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets -- and the more you’re able to reap its benefits.
To practice and encourage the character strength of gratitude with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
