A Message from Ms. Vargas
Dear Peirce Families,
I want to thank all the families who came to our recent Friendship Walk, cheering and holding up signs of gratitude for Peirce teachers and staff. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a caring and supportive community.
Sincerely,
Andrea Vargas
Moments from the Friendship Walk & Sing-Along, November 22nd
Cold Weather Clothes Needed Daily
Winter weather is arriving. We will try to have outdoor recess as much as possible since that supports the learning and health of all students. Please send your child to school with a winter coat, hat, and gloves/mittens each day so that he/she/ they can comfortably enjoy recess. In snowy, cold weather, students in kindergarten through third grade should also be wearing snow pants. On days when it is raining, snowy, or wet, boots must be worn by all students. Most of the Peirce playground area is not plowable, and boots are needed to access many areas. Additionally, changing into different shoes once inside helps keep our building clean, dry, and safe.
If your family needs assistance obtaining winter weather clothing, please contact Principal Andrea Vargas or Social Worker Michal Shapiro.
Literacy Letters for Grades 1, 2, & 3
Here's reminder to caregivers of students in first through third grades:
As of November 14th, letters reporting on each student's literacy progress have been available for families in Aspen. If you have not already viewed your child's letter, please follow these directions to see information regarding fall literacy assessments and instructional plans that result from these data.
Peirce Holiday Gift Card Drive- Deadline Extended
As the holiday season approaches, we are once again holding a Holiday Gift Card Drive to assist students and families in the Peirce community who are in need of support with purchasing food, winter clothing, and gifts.
If it is within your budget this year, we welcome donations of gift cards to the following stores:
● Starmarket
● Market Basket
● Target
● Amazon
It is most helpful if gift cards are purchased in $25 increments to help us share equitably among families. (For example, if you are able to give $100, please purchase 4 cards of $25 each.) Please place donated gift cards in an envelope in your child’s home/school folder or drop them off at the main office. If you are able to support our Holiday Gift Card Drive, please donate by Tuesday, December 5th (extended deadline) so that we can distribute the cards to appreciative Peirce families in time for the holiday season.
If your family is in need of holiday season support and you have not already been in contact with us, please reach out to Principal Andrea Vargas or Bridge Social Worker Michal Shapiro. We honor your privacy, and names of gift card recipients are not shared with others.
Community Block Update
This past Thursday, Peirce enjoyed a school-wide Town Meeting focusing on our SEL themes of last month: Assertion and Advocacy. Students watched skits about growth mindset as prepared by our fifth graders. They also heard a song about growth mindset and practiced saying affirmations that can help to overcome challenges.
