Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a systems approach supported by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Jackson R-2 School District to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is a school-wide strategy at Orchard Drive Elementary for helping all students achieve important academic and behavioral learning goals. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning.
As a part of PBIS, we have established clear expectations for behavior in all areas of our school. We explicitly teach these expectations to the students and recognize their efforts. We have four essential behavior standards that we will focus on teaching our students: be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and have character. See the following information below on these behavior standards and expectations. When students follow expectations, they will be rewarded with positive feedback and/or Pride Tickets. Pride tickets can be “cashed in” for rewards.
By detailing every expected behavior and teaching them to students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone in our building. We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow.

What are the Behavioral Expectations at Orchard Drive Elementary?
T.R.I.B.E.
Along with our expectations to be safe, respectful, responsible, and have character, we learn to be a T.R.I.B.E. (Trust, Respect, Integrity, Belonging, and Empathy). Students learn the meaning of T.R.I.B.E. and how to apply these traits to their daily life during morning meeting with their classroom and during counseling.

Minor Behavior Referral Process
If a student does not follow expectations, and the behavior is minor, then the minor referral process may be followed. This involves intervening early and often in order to reteach the student the appropriate behavior. However, if the inappropriate behavior continues, consequences can occur. See this flowchart for more information about our minor referral process.
Major Referral Process
If a student does not follow expectations, and the behavior is major, then an Office Discipline Referral (ODR) may be submitted. This means a principal will conference with the student about the inappropriate behavior and reteach the appropriate behavior. Consequences may also be given. You will be contacted by a principal to discuss the situation with you if your child receives an ODR. We appreciate your support and partnership as we work together to help your child succeed!
Purpose
Our goal is to discourage inappropriate behavior by explicitly teaching the appropriate behaviors and providing students with the supports they need to be successful.
