HHES PWT Read-A-Thon continues
Students can log their reading time until April 26. Every reader that participates will receive a bookmark from Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt that, when filled out, can be redeemed at the Battle Ground storefront for a sweet treat!
Money raised as a result of this fundraiser will go towards the refresh of the HHES Library. The PWT plans to purchase paint to create a mural, paint for the walls and doors, supplies, and new furniture that will brighten the HHES library space and develop an environment that will foster avid student readers.

State Testing Postponed to Fall 2021
OSPI has decided not to administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments or the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science this spring. Instead, the State will move our testing window to fall 2021. Click HERE to read Chris Reykdal's full statement on this decision. We will be sharing more information on state testing with our families as it becomes available.
Groups, Businesses Unite for HSD Earth Day Cleanup Event
It is spring, it is sunny, and Earth Day is just around the corner! It is a perfect time for a clean up to beautify our schools and community. On Sunday, April 18, volunteers from People Working Together, Hockinson Main Street Team, Hockinson Citizens for Better Schools, and Hockinson Schools are organizing the 2021 Earth Day Cleanup to remove trash and weeds on and around HSD campuses and prepare these sites for some exciting enhancements. These projects include the installation of a bench near the HMS track, a natural play area at the Hockinson Community Center, and the planting of native plants and flowers this fall.
This service project would not be possible without our volunteers, donors, and the generous support of these businesses:
Battle Ground Rockery
Heritage Safeway
Heritage Burgerville
Weyerhauser
Red Beard Concrete
CalPortland Concrete
ShurWay Building Center

Earth Day fun fact: Did you know that the first Earth Day in 1970 was organized by Clark County native Denis Hayes? Learn more Earth Day history here.

Let’s Stay Healthy, Hockinson
The COVID-19 infection rate has been on an upward trend over the last several weeks, and that trend is expected to continue as we get closer to summer. Local public health officials agree that schools are not the source of this increase, largely thanks to the numerous safety measures that are in place at school building, including enhanced cleaning and ventilation and daily health attestations.
While there has not been COVID-19 transmission in Hockinson Schools to date, it is important that we continue to practice all safety precautions, including hand washing, physical distancing, and wearing face coverings. Local public health officials are also encouraging more people to get vaccinated to help keep the virus transmission rate low.
